Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Jake Rome! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Benjamin Briggs! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, Robert Douchet and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Nice sprawl there from Briggs as Rome shoots in. Nice takedown defense from Briggs. No joy for Rome on that attempt. Rome moves out of range as Briggs strikes. Rome tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Briggs swivels and escapes. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jake Rome. That's going to take a lot out of him. Briggs displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Rome. Briggs now looks to counter with a shot at the body. Briggs misses with a low kick.
Rome shoots for a double leg takedown but Briggs sprawls well. He's pushed Rome's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Jake Rome seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Rome shoots in for a double leg but Briggs sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Briggs fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Rome manages to avoid it. A counter left hand to the body from Rome misses its target. Rome shoots in looking for a takedown. Briggs tries to sprawl out of it but Rome keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Briggs manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing. Rome is breathing heavily. Briggs swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Rome half commits to a counter takedown before pushing away, out of range. Rome gets the takedown into side control. Briggs holding on. Rome throwing strikes but Briggs manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
That's two minutes gone in the round. Briggs controls the position. Briggs wants to lay and pray for a moment but Rome keeps working. This has been an exciting period of action! Rome is letting Briggs control him for a moment. Briggs has knee on belly and now moves to full mount! Trouble for Rome!

Let's hope that Briggs has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight. Briggs trying to control but he's not successful this time. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee sends both fighters to their corners and Rome has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from Rome and we're back underway with a touch of gloves. Briggs wants to land a leg kick but Rome is out of range. Briggs shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down. Rome shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Briggs but Briggs pushes him off and we're back to square one. Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here. Rome misses with a head kick.

Rome is looking to slip a leg under and get half guard but Briggs is one step ahead and moves to full mount! Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Rome keeping his composure momentarily, calmly looking to get back to half guard.

Benjamin Briggs showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!

Briggs is not content to let Rome control the position. Both fighters are breathing heavily.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring. Rome avoids the attempt from Briggs to control. Briggs regains half guard. Briggs keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount. Briggs is staying active underneath Rome, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Rome missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. Briggs is refusing to be controlled, as Rome sits in half guard. Rome is looking to advance position but Briggs won't allow it. Briggs manages to get to full guard.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Rome lands a couple of elbows. Rome throws an elbow that misses. Briggs uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Rome's guard. Nice move by Briggs! Briggs seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. Rome looking to hit a scissor sweep but Briggs is one step ahead there. Rome wants to improve his position but instead Briggs has moved into half guard.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Briggs tries to stand but can't do so whilst Rome controls his leg. Briggs takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position. Rome is trying to maintain the position but Briggs is very close to passing his half guard.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Briggs throws a low kick but Rome moves out of range easily. Jake Rome has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Briggs throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Benjamin Briggs. Well Briggs has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
