PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Derek Jacobs (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Kunta Kinte (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Derek Jacobs has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Derek Jacobs seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Derek Jacobs!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kunta Kinte!
The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Frank Antenori and Don Winkell.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Jacobs throws out a loose jab but Kinte uses good head movement to avoid it.

Kinte darts in and clinches Jacobs up against the cage.
Kinte is working for takedown but Jacobs is calmly controlling the position for now.
Jacobs can't get the takedown.
Kinte lands a body punch in the clinch.

Jacobs escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Kinte fails with a takedown attempt.

Kinte closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Kinte is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.

Kinte fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Jacobs avoids it really well and circles away.
It looked like Jacobs was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Kinte shoots in looking for a takedown. Jacobs tries to sprawl out of it but Kinte keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Jacobs manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Kinte shoots in for a takedown but Jacobs shows good takedown defense.
Jacobs throws a right and a left that Kinte avoids nicely.
Kinte throws a sloppy head kick and Jacobs moves out of range easily.

It looked like Jacobs was looking amped, ready to throw a big counter but didn't commit.

Kinte misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
As Kinte tries to get set, Jacobs tries to push him back and clinch up but Kinte manages to avoid the attempt.

Kinte clinches up with Jacobs and pushes him back against the cage.
Jacobs jumps guard but Kinte turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.

Kinte breaks from the clinch.
Kinte misses with a leg kick.
As Kinte looks to move away, Jacobs throws a big counter combo but Kinte just gets out of the way.
Jacobs could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Kinte darts in looking for a takedown but Jacobs gets double underhooks and turns Kinte into the cage.

Jacobs closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Kinte to the mat! Kinte manages to get full guard.

Kinte pushes Jacobs off and gets back to his feet.
Kinte shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Jacobs shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Kinte as he avoids it easily.
Kinte wants to counter the offense by Jacobs and move into the clinch position.

Kinte rushes Jacobs and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Jacobs escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Jacobs displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Kinte.
Jacobs throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Kinte.
A nice side step and Kinte releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home.
Kinte throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Horrible takedown attempt by Kinte or perhaps it was just good defense by Jacobs, which made it look bad.

and Jacobs holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

Jacobs drags the fight down to the ground.

Jacobs isolates an arm and boxes in a triangle. Kinte stacks Jacobs on his neck as he steps over and passes to the side. He's now in a much more dominant position where he can look to do some serious damage. Nice move by Kinte!
Jacobs parries the strikes from Kinte easily there. Kinte is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Jacobs to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Derek Jacobs will probably get the nod.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.

Jacobs can't break the clinch.
Kinte fails to pull guard.

Jacobs wants to break free but Kinte has control.
A frustrated look appears on Kinte's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Jacobs tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Kinte just stands there and leans against the cage.

Kinte controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Kinte passes Jacobs's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Let's hope that Kinte has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Jacobs jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Kinte walks away with a smile on his face. Jacobs gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Jacobs appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick.

Jacobs decides to pull guard.
Kinte looking to sit in guard and control but Jacobs gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Jacobs content to strike from guard, landing some decent shots.
Derek Jacobs overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Kinte working for a triangle but Jacobs defends it easily.
Jacobs won't allow Kinte to sweep him here.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Derek Jacobs.
I think Jacobs has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
