Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
5 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jose Maichuso!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Dope Boi!
The judges for this bout are Johanna Lukiainen, Anni Minnemäki and Arvi Lind.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boi stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Boi wants it to stay on the feet.
Boi closes the distance and clinches.
Boi pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Boi lands a jab to the nose.
Maichuso avoids the head kick by Boi.
Boi pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Maichuso dives in and grabs Boi's left leg, looking for a takedown. Boi pushes down on Maichuso's head and hops out.
Maichuso fails to land the takedown.

Boi lands a right hook to the body.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

It seemed like Boi was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it.

Maichuso misses with a takedown attempt - Boi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Boi is defended easily by Maichuso.
Maichuso could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.

and Boi counters with a nice jab to the body that keeps Maichuso thinking.

Boi must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Boi accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Boi avoids a guillotine attempt easily.

Maichuso is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Maichuso is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Boi doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Maichuso.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Boi turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Boi manages to end up in side control.

Maichuso postures up in Boi's guard and throws a big left but Boi blocks it.
Boi has an active guard here but Maichuso has managed to pass into half guard.
Maichuso looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

Maichuso thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Boi's head.

Maichuso is looking for a kimura but Boi is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Maichuso to get the leverage.

Maichuso is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Boi looking to hit a scissor sweep but Maichuso is one step ahead there.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.
Boi looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into side control! Oh, that's bad for Maichuso!
Maichuso explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
