Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the super heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
13 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Eddie Newton! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
8 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steph Curry! The judges for this bout are Don Winkell, Frank Antenori and Jack Bonds.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Curry scores with a hook to the body. Newton takes a step back and tries to catch his breath. Newton misses with a hook. Curry ducked under it nicely. Newton throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Curry sees it coming and avoids it easily. Newton uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Curry. Newton misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Newton is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Curry. Curry throws a lazy right hand but Newton sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Newton appears to be looking for a counter punch to the body. Curry throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Newton stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly. Curry throws an overhand right that lands on Newton's shoulder, as Newton tries to avoid the shot. Curry throws a big shot that misses. Curry misses with a few strikes there.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Curry tries to land a leg kick but Newton saw it coming and moves away.
A quick step to the side and Newton tries to counter with a shot to the body but it doesn't connect. Newton connects with a slap. Keep your fist closed son. Curry scores with a nice strike.
It looks like Eddie Newton has been cut. This has been an exciting period of action! A jab from Newton misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Newton blocks the body kick.
Curry staying out of range there. Curry's coach down at LOD: Black Label was telling us pre-fight that they have been working on Curry's balance. Obviously they view that as a key factor in the outcome of this fight. Newton walks straight into an uppercut. Luckily it didn't land flush. Newton ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Curry moves away. Curry swings away with a counter right hand but no contact made. Curry fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Curry takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt. Curry lands with a shot to the body. Curry scores with a kick to the body.
Newton rushes in with a sloppy looking punch
and Curry cracks him with a counter punch right on the button. Curry throws a body punch but Newton moves out of range. Newton takes a body kick right on the floating rib. Ouchie.
Steph Curry seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Newton is breathing heavily. Curry tries a switch kick but it misses it's target. We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out! Newton drops his guard momentarily, allowing Curry to crack him with a picture perfect lead left hook! Boom! Down goes Newton! Oh, he's in big trouble - I don't like his chances here as the referee's count reaches 5. 6,7,8,9...10! He's out! Curry takes it!
