Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Amaro Cortez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Desman DeSantos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Buckle up people - heeeeeeeeeere we go!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Amaro Cortez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Desman DeSantos!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Mauricio Rocha and Paulo Santos.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
DeSantos will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cortez throws a big counter combination but DeSantos scrambles out of danger and avoids any damage.
DeSantos chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Cortez can pounce on him.
DeSantos shoots for a double leg takedown but Cortez sprawls well. He's pushed DeSantos's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

Cortez gets a takedown into half guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Cortez really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Cortez is thwarting DeSantos's attempts to control the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
DeSantos is staying active underneath Cortez, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Cortez is working for a submission of some sort.
DeSantos throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
DeSantos is looking for a sweep. Cortez is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
DeSantos is trying to maintain the position but Cortez is very close to passing his half guard.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Cortez throws out a token jab with nothing on it.

Cortez darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard.
Cortez passes to side control.
Cortez will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
DeSantos is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.
DeSantos is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first.

Cortez is looking to take a break and control but DeSantos is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
DeSantos dodges the ground and pound from Cortez.
DeSantos tries to improve position but can't.
Cortez advances nicely into full mount.
DeSantos is working to get back to half guard.

Cortez lands with some vicious ground and pound - can DeSantos hang on?

DeSantos swinging wildly from the bottom but he's not landing.
Cortez tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Cortez is landing with some decent strikes but DeSantos is trying to advance his position so the referee is letting the fight continue.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


DeSantos throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Cortez will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
As Cortez backs off DeSantos throws a huge counter combo but Cortez manages to avoid it all.
DeSantos tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Cortez paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Cortez misses with a few strikes there.

DeSantos moves into the clinch successfully.
DeSantos makes some space for himself and lands an uppercut.
DeSantos has had enough of the clinch but Cortez keeps him there for the moment.
Cortez is trying to pull guard but DeSantos turns him against the cage and we stay in the clinch.
Cortez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. DeSantos smiles and moves away.

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Amaro Cortez. That's going to take a lot out of him.
DeSantos has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Cortez finds it's way round the side to connect with DeSantos's head.

and Cortez holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.

DeSantos lands with a right to the head.
DeSantos tries to break the clinch but Cortez is controlling the position.
Cortez tries to pull guard but DeSantos won't allow it.
Cortez tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. DeSantos smiles and moves away.
DeSantos looks to land a combination but Cortez avoids it well.

Cortez shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Cortez showed some decent athleticism there.

DeSantos kicks off Cortez and gets to his feet.
Cortez avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
DeSantos walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. Cortez checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
DeSantos fails to land with a series of punches.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
DeSantos moves in looking to clinch but Cortez pushes him off.
Cortez fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but DeSantos avoids it really well and circles away.

Cortez shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. DeSantos is trying to defend but Cortez finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.

Cortez escapes and gets back to his feet.
DeSantos clobbers Cortez with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
Cortez shoots in for a takedown but DeSantos shows good takedown defense.

DeSantos moves into the clinch successfully.

Cortez's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.
Cortez avoids the body shot from DeSantos.
Desman DeSantos seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Cortez scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Cortez misses with an attempted head punch from side control.
DeSantos manages to get back to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
DeSantos is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Cortez's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Cortez's back!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
DeSantos has the hooks in. Cortez is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.

DeSantos is looking to control Cortez but Cortez is wriggling around and keeping busy.
DeSantos not allowing Cortez to control his hands.
DeSantos just keeping the dominant position. He can't wait too long though, otherwise the referee will stand them back up.

Cortez is really stuck here.

Desman DeSantos showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! So, we enter the final round. Let's see if either fighter can bring us a finish, or whether we're going to the judges scorecards.


DeSantos wants to clinch up but Cortez keeps it at a distance.
Cortez misses with a takedown attempt - DeSantos sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Amaro Cortez is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cortez goes for a high kick. It partially lands.
Cortez moves in looking to clinch but DeSantos pushes him off.

DeSantos takes the fight into the clinch.
Cortez is looking to take this one to the mat.
DeSantos digs a right hand into Cortez's ribs. Those have got to be taking their toll on Cortez's gas tank.

Cortez escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Cortez slaps away a takedown attempt from DeSantos, before circling back to the center of the mat.
DeSantos tries to clinch up against the cage, rushing in to close the distance. Cortez manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat.

DeSantos fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cortez, pushing him back against the cage.
Cortez stalling.
DeSantos jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Cortez walks away with a smile on his face. DeSantos gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.
Amaro Cortez has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Desman DeSantos.
DeSantos tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Cortez tries to counter with a takedown but DeSantos is quick to defend against it.
Cortez connects with an inside leg kick.
DeSantos wants to clinch up but Cortez keeps it at a distance.
Cortez is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from DeSantos.
Cortez fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. DeSantos looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
Cortez scores with a head kick. DeSantos tried to block it but didn't get his arm up in time.
DeSantos will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Cortez shoots in for a takedown but DeSantos shows good takedown defense.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
DeSantos steps to his left, right into the path of a big body kick from Cortez. That one must have hurt.

DeSantos has taken the fight to the clinch.

Cortez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.

DeSantos fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Cortez, pushing him back against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Cortez stalling.
DeSantos is trying to break the clinch but Cortez has him pressed against the cage.
Cortez has DeSantos pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. DeSantos manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Cortez blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
Cortez throws an elbow but it misses.

Cortez breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Cortez keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.

Cortez has managed to clinch.

Cortez breaks from the clinch.
DeSantos tries to clinch but Cortez moves out of range.
Cortez shoots in and drives through. DeSantos sprawls well.

Cortez rushes DeSantos and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

A telegraphed takedown attempt from Cortez is defended easily by DeSantos.

DeSantos closes the distance and clinches.

Cortez tries to pull guard but DeSantos forces him back to his feet, against the cage.
A frustrated look appears on DeSantos's face as he tries to break the clinch.
DeSantos is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage.

Cortez breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
DeSantos tries to bum rush Cortez with a series of wild strikes but Cortez uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Cortez tries to counter with a takedown but DeSantos is quick to defend against it.
DeSantos is looking to clinch.
Amaro Cortez is winning the standup battle so far.
DeSantos shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Cortez is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in DeSantos's half guard.

DeSantos has managed to escape just enough to sneak back to his feet but Cortez is on him like a limpet, forcing DeSantos back against the cage.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Cortez gets underhooks to prevent DeSantos's takedown attempt.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Amaro Cortez.
I think Cortez has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
