Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
7 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jimmie Connor! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
13 - 15 - 0, fighting out of New York, All American! The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Seu Braga and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Connor closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. American gets full guard. American trying to strike off his back.
American has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. American is pulling down on Connor's head. It's preventing any offense from Connor, at least for the moment. American is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move. American lands with a punch from half guard. American lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt. American is looking for a kimura here.
American slips a nice elbow through Connor's hands, connecting with Connor's forehead.
That's one minute gone in the round. American looks to score some points with some ground and pound. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. American is nestled in close to Connor, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Connor is rocked! American keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action. Oh Connor is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! American wants to take a breather but Connor is having none of it. American works his foot free and advances to mount. American lands a big shot to the head and Connor winces in pain. He's tapped out due to strikes!
