Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Shamil Gasanov!
The judges for this bout are Sergei Dronov, Fedor Mirinova and Vladimir Khabensky.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gasanov moves to clinch but Matthews breaks away
and Matthews counters with a nice double leg into side control. Gasanov won't be happy with that.
Gasanov explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there!
Horrible takedown attempt by Gasanov or perhaps it was just good defense by Matthews, which made it look bad.
Gasanov gets tackled into the cage by Matthews. Matthews maintains the clinch.
Gasanov has had enough of the clinch but Matthews keeps him there for the moment.
Matthews goes for a takedown in the clinch but Gasanov prevents it.
Matthews gets underhooks to prevent Gasanov's takedown attempt.
Gasanov fails to pull guard.
Markus Matthews has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Shamil Gasanov.
Matthews gets a trip takedown into half guard.
Gasanov manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. Matthews keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Gasanov has hold of one of Matthews's legs. Matthews is fighting the takedown attempt but Gasanov gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
Matthews wants to sweep but no luck.
Gasanov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Matthews is keeping the position for now.
Gasanov slips nicely into half guard.
Gasanov passes to full mount!
Gasanov working to secure an arm triangle but it's not happening for him just yet.

Matthews is just holding on here. Gasanov manages to take his back.
Matthews is trying to defend against the choke here but Gasanov has an arm under his chin. This one might not last much longer. Gasanov Tightens the hold and Matthews taps out furiously! Gasanov displays superior BJJ to win the fight.
