Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Justin Coon (ranked 24994 p4p, 925 weight class) and Aldo Shupe (ranked 6072 p4p, 709 weight class). Aldo Shupe has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Justin Coon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Aldo Shupe!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Ryoma Takatsuka and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Coon tries to close the distance and clinch up but Shupe swats him away and circles back towards the center.
Shupe shoots in and drives through. Coon sprawls well.
Coon tried to counter with a leg kick but Shupe avoided it.

Coon clinches up against the cage.
Coon landing knees to the body.
Shupe lands a hook to the side of the head.
Shupe lands a shoulder strike that jolts his opponent's head backwards.
Shupe jumps guard but Coon turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Shupe tries a knee to the head but he's missed.
Coon lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Shupe tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Justin Coon has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Aldo Shupe.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Shupe turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Shupe really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Coon. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Coon wants to stand but Shupe is controlling his arm.

Shupe tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Coon tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily.
Shupe wants to get back to his feet but Coon drags him back down.
Coon wants to stand but Shupe has his arm trapped.
Shupe tries to slip a leg under to move to half guard but Coon presses down on the leg and jumps into full mount!

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Shupe is trying desperately to improve position.

Coon stands up from mount. Strange move.
Shupe slaps away a takedown attempt from Coon, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Coon gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.

Shupe jumps guard but Coon turns him against the cage and keeps the fight standing.
Shupe is trying to pull guard but Coon has him pressed against the cage.

Shupe is looking to break free of the clinch but Coon has double underhooks.

Coon lands an elbow just above Shupe 's eye.
Shupe tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Coon smiles and moves away.
Coon avoids a punch combination nicely.
Shupe throws a right and a left that Coon avoids nicely.
Coon wants to clinch up but Shupe keeps it at a distance.
Shupe fails with the takedown.
Coon throws a counter high kick but Shupe was just alert enough to avoid it.

Coon moves in looking to clinch but Shupe pushes him off.

Shupe moves into range and clinches up with Coon.
Coon lands a glancing elbow in the clinch.
Shupe lands with a short punch from the clinch.

Shupe pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Shupe moves into the clinch.
Shupe lands a shoulder strike.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Shupe tries to pull guard but Coon holds him up against the cage and eventually Shupe drops back down to his feet.

Shupe works for the underhooks and manages to get a trip takedown into guard.

Shupe drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Coon dives on top into guard.

Shupe looks winded!

Coon gets to his feet and steps away from his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Justin Coon will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Shupe tries to keep at a distance but Coon has taken the fight into the clinch.
Shupe lands with a right to the head.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Shupe creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.
Coon unloads a knee to the mid-section. Shupe lets out a prehistoric sounding urrrrgh.

Coon gets to his feet. Shupe looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!

Coon lands an elbow just above Shupe 's eye.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Coon gets an overhook and lands an elbow to the side of the head.

Shupe has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Coon regains guard immediately.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Coon decides he's had enough of the ground and stands up.
Shupe rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Coon moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Shupe shoots in for a double leg but Coon sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

Coon is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Shupe is defending well.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Shupe lands a short shot on the inside that snaps the head of Coon backwards.

That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Justin Coon.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Coon, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
