Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Shannon Craig! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Kazushi Gomi! The judges for this bout are Yukihiro Shimada, Shigeki Fujiwara and Ren Mimura.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Gomi fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Craig, pushing him back against the cage. Gomi tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.
Gomi prevents a body shot from Craig. Gomi pulls guard. Craig drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Gomi manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Craig has Gomi in his guard. A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Craig holds on and takes a little breather. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Craig trying to control the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Gomi working some strikes from top position. Craig will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions. Craig is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gomi forces his way into half guard. Gomi is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
Gomi is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Gomi is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Craig has managed to free his arm - good work. Craig tries to roll over but Gomi keeps him under control. Gomi passes into side control, despite Craig's attempt to control the position.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Gomi tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though. Craig really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. Gomi postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Craig is rocked! My spies in Cozad MMA Tokyo inform me that Gomi has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Craig looking for a sweep but Gomi has passed into full mount! Oh no! Oh Craig is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!! Craig knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Gomi on the ground. Craig is wriggling around here but as he tries to escape, Gomi has taken his back.
Gomi is landing big shots and Craig is squirming looking to escape! He can't escape though and the ref jumps in to end the fight!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Kazushi Gomi!
