Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Masamune Date! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Raymond Donde! The judges for this bout are Shigeki Fujiwara, Ren Mimura and Kenichi Hosakawa.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Date feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position. Donde looking to hit a scissor sweep but Date is one step ahead there. Donde has Date pulled in close to control his posture. Date landing with the ground and pound. Donde lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard. Date keeping moving, preventing Donde from controlling successfully. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Donde stops Date from standing up. Donde is pushing down on Date's leg trying to pass to half guard. Date is fighting to maintain full guard but Donde has managed to sneak the leg through. Date is looking to control Donde's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Date avoid being mounted? Date pushes Donde off looking to stand but Donde dives back in and keeps control.
Date tries to get to full guard but Donde has control of the leg.
That's one minute gone in the round. Donde wants to free his trapped foot but Date is holding on for dear life with his legs. Date is looking to improve his position.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Donde prevents Date from improving his position. Donde content to control rather than advance. Date wants to get back to full guard. Donde wants to work for an arm triangle but Date is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Date on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Date tries to get out of the position. Donde is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Date defends it well.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Donde controlling the action here. The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now. Donde is looking to take a break and control but Date is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom. Donde is thwarting Date's attempts to control the position. Donde is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there. Donde is figuring out what he wants to do next. Date tries to kick Donde off in order to stand up. Donde Avoids the leg push though and dives into side control. Donde has hold of Date's arm. He's looking for a kimura. Date seems comfortable defending it but Donde has shifted his position slighty and is cranking on the arm! Date is real pain and he's forced to tap out! Date is disgusted with himself for not defending it better but Donde couldn't care less - he's delighted!
