The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Spillane blocks a jab. Spillane changes levels for a counter takedown but doesn't follow through with his attempt. Spillane misses with a body kick. It looked like Hurley wanted to counter with a hook but didn't fully commit. A jab lands there for Hurley. Spillane takes one on the button. Hurley throws a wild combination but nothing lands. Hurley looks for the body kick but Spillane saw that one coming. Spillane misses with a wild body shot. Spillane connects with an inside leg kick. A right-left combo lands from Spillane. Spillane fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Spillane fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Hurley sprawls well initially but Spillane persists and gets the takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hurley manages to escape and get back to his feet! Spillane fails to land with a series of punches.

Hurley feints and then winds up with a huge right hand that connects perfectly and sends Spillane sprawling to the canvas! Spillane rolls over backwards and springs off the cage and manages to regain his footing - how acrobatic! Oh, he's still wobbly - can Hurley finish him?!

That's one minute gone in the round. Spillane throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Spillane tries to bum rush Hurley with a series of wild strikes but Hurley uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Hurley scores with a shot to the body.
Spillane throws a nice outside leg kick. Spillane misses with a straight left. Spillane connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt. Spillane shoots in for a takedown but Hurley shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet. Hurley is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Spillane. Spillane scores with a hook. Spillane darts in and lands a nice takedown into half guard. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Spillane tries to free his leg and advance position but Hurley is retaining full guard. Spillane loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry. Hurley manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Spillane manages to get himself to full guard.

That was a close round but I would say that Bull Hurley will probably get the nod. OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.
A telegraphed right hand from Hurley misses the target. Hurley fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Spillane manages to avoid it. Spillane shoots in looking for a takedown but Hurley manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Spillane's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. Spillane throws a wild body kick that Hurley sees coming a mile off. Hurley with a body punch. A glancing blow. Spillane staying out of range there. Spillane tries to score with a low kick but Hurley moves his leg out of the way. Spillane tries to bum rush Hurley with a series of wild strikes but Hurley uses good footwork to avoid the assault. Spillane moves out of range of the body kick from Hurley.
Hurley throws a series of punches but Spillane avoids them all with ease. A nice side step and Spillane releases a counter shot to the body, but it doesn't find it's home. Hurley throws an overhand right that lands on Spillane's shoulder, as Spillane tries to avoid the shot. Spillane jabbing away but nothing is landing. Hurley wants to take advantage of his opponent's missed offense by moving into the clinch. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Spillane moves out of range as Hurley throws a body kick.
As Hurley backs off Spillane throws a huge counter combo but Hurley manages to avoid it all. Hurley goes for a spinning back kick but it misses. Hurley pushing out the jab but it's not landing. Some bone on bone action there as Hurley checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one. Spillane swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Hurley counters with a stiff right hand. Hurley throws a body kick that misses.
That's one minute gone in the round. Spillane looking for a takedown here - he's got it. Hurley is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Spillane is controlling him. Hurley is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent. Hurley is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Hurley controlling Spillane's posture. Spillane throws a strike but Hurley rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top. Hurley seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Hurley preventing the sweep. Spillane is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Hurley sitting in guard here, content to control. Spillane managing to control the position. Let's hope that Spillane has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Hurley misses with a body shot.
Nickey Spillane seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hurley ducks under a wild hook from Spillane. Spillane gets cracked with a nice right hand there by Hurley. Spillane looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it. Spillane lands with an uppercut that bounces Hurley off the cage and back into range. Hurley bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick. Nice body kick there by Hurley. Spillane is breathing heavily. Hurley looks to throw the jab but Spillane is out of range. Hurley checks a leg kick. Spillane blocks the body kick.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Hurley thuds a mid kick into his opponent's body. That will wear on Spillane if he has to take too many more of those.
Spillane moves out of range of the body kick. Bull Hurley is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs. Spillane takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Hurley misses with a straight right. Hurley sends Spillane crashing to the mat with a devastating uppercut! Hurley is motioning to the referee to let Spillane up. He wants to try and finish this one on the feet! Hurley cracks Spillane with a hook to the temple - Spillane is on wobbly legs here! Hurley swarms him with hook after hook, landing with each one! Spillane falls to the canvas face first and the referee dives in to stop the fight! Hurley wins by TKO!
