Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of New York, Barry Lawson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Alan Hansen! The judges for this bout are Steve Montenegro, John Kavanagh and Jonathan Paton.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Hansen drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard. Lawson has scooted to the edge of the canvas and used the cage to get back to his feet. Hansen has stuck on his opponent and is forcing him back against the cage. Lawson misses with a hook to the ribs.
Hansen is defending well against a takedown attempt. Lawson is trying to break free. Lawson prevents Hansen from breaking the clinch. Nice body punch from Hansen - that landed with a thud.
Lawson is working on a leg, looking for a takedown but Hansen is defending well. Lawson prevents Hansen from breaking the clinch. Lawson keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Hansen's efforts to push away. Hansen has had enough of the clinch but Lawson keeps him there for the moment. Hansen has Lawson pressed against the cage, preventing Lawson from circling away and getting back to striking at range. Lawson jumps into guard, dragging Hansen to the mat.
Hansen stands up from guard. Let's bang! Sloppy strikes from Hansen. Those never looked like landing. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Hansen goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.
It looks like Barry Lawson has been cut.
That's one minute gone in the round. A punch combination from Hansen misses. Lawson drops down looking for a counter takedown but Hansen sprawls and moves away. Hansen rushes Lawson and presses him up against the cage. Lawson tries to pull guard but Hansen holds him up against the cage and eventually Lawson drops back down to his feet.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Barry Lawson. That's going to take a lot out of him. Hansen is trying to push Lawson away but Lawson has him pressed against the cage, so he's going nowhere. Hansen gets double underhooks to prevent a takedown attempt from Lawson.
Lawson keeps control of Hansen as he tries to wriggle out of the double underhooks. Lawson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does. Alan Hansen seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Hansen tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Lawson was well out of range. Poor timing from Hansen. Lawson shoots for a double leg takedown but Hansen sprawls well. He's pushed Lawson's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Hansen moves into the clinch.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Lawson tries to throw a body punch but Hansen avoids it by throwing Lawson back against the cage. Hansen pulls guard. Hansen is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control. Lawson stands and steps away. Hansen gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game. Hansen misses with a jab, cross combination.

Lawson gets his head snapped back by a nice shot there. Hansen throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Lawson was covering up waiting for the punch and Hansen finishes the takedown easily into guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hansen wants to stand and escape but instead Lawson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.
Hansen really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Lawson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out. A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Lawson accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand. Lawson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat. Lawson throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent. Lawson distracts Hansen with his right hand and drops a big elbow with his other arm. Lawson thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lawson drops back looking for a leg! Hansen is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Hansen manages to kick Lawson off! and Lawson holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch. Nice body punch from Hansen. Hansen is trying to break the clinch but Lawson is controlling him. Lawson tries to pull guard but Hansen forces him back to his feet, against the cage. Hansen ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Hansen no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard. Lawson throwing strikes but missing. Lawson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Hansen controlling Lawson's posture.
That's one minute gone in the round. Lawson throws a big right hand that misses. We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Hansen can do anything to dispel that myth. Lawson would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard. Hansen looking to sweep here. No luck so far. Hansen is looking to stand back up but Lawson counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Hansen. Lawson is looking for a kimura here.
Lawson is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Lawson thows a huge punch but Hansen dodges it nicely.

Lawson has control of Hansen's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Hansen regains control of the situation pretty easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round. Hansen tries to improve his position but instead Lawson has taken his back! Lawson is persistently looking for the submission but Hansen is defending it well.
Lawson is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Hansen knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Hansen for a finish. Hansen is trying to get back to his feet but Lawson has full control of the position and if anything, Hansen has just worked his way into a worse spot.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. A lull in the action here.

Lawson swats away the attempt to clinch by Hansen. Lawson is trying to close the distance and clinch up, after that failed offence from Hansen. Lawson uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Hansen.
Lawson appeared to be looking to counter that last move with a leg kick. No luck for Lawson with that takedown attempt. Lawson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Hansen.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Lawson throws a body shot but no joy. Hansen scores with a nice right hand.

That's two minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. Hansen controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Lawson really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape. A left and a right from Hansen both land. Nice combination. Hansen shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Lawson has his feet on Hansen's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work. Hansen takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired. Hansen misses with a double jab.
Alan Hansen is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things. Some wild striking there from Hansen.
Lawson takes a shot right to the liver - Bas would have been proud of that punch. A head kick misses from Hansen.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Hansen tries to clinch up. Hansen swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.

Hansen wants to clinch up but Lawson keeps it at a distance. Lawson throwing a counter right hand but Hansen manages to avoid it. Lawson shoots in but Hansen avoids the takedown attempt easily. Hansen tries to move into range but Lawson moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand. Hansen throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Lawson tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Hansen is in Lawson's guard. Lawson throwing strikes off his back to little effect.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Lawson is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far. Lawson manages to escape and get back to his feet.

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Hansen throws a series of punches but Lawson avoids them all with ease. Lawson throwing a counter right hand but Hansen manages to avoid it. Lawson keeps the fight on the outside. Hansen falls off balance throwing a combination
enabling Lawson to counter with a crisp jab. Lawson changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Hansen tries to avoid it but Lawson manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Hansen to the ground. Hansen escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Alan Hansen. I think Hansen has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
