PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Max Cavalera (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and NICOLAS ROCHA (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cavalera comes to the cage accompanied by Territory. The atmosphere really building for this one as we go over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Max Cavalera!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, NICOLAS ROCHA!
The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
ROCHA looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Cavalera is fending him off so far but ROCHA persists. Nope, Cavalera circles away and we're back to standing.

Cavalera changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. ROCHA looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
ROCHA is trying to work for a sweep but Cavalera has mounted him!
ROCHA is looking to improve his position but Cavalera isn't that keen on the idea.

Cavalera has control of ROCHA's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and ROCHA regains control of the situation pretty easily.

Cavalera is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but ROCHA is surviving well by controlling Cavalera's body position as best he can.

Cavalera prevents ROCHA from getting the reversal.
ROCHA has given up his back here.

Cavalera is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. ROCHA defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
ROCHA trying to control the hands but Cavalera won't let him.

ROCHA turns into Cavalera and is now in his guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
ROCHA wants to control from the top but Cavalera keeps moving.

ROCHA pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Cavalera is keeping the position for now.
ROCHA throws and elbow that misses. Cavalera uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in ROCHA's guard. Nice move by Cavalera!
ROCHA working a defensive guard but Cavalera manages to pass into side control anyway.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
ROCHA is trying to get back to his feet.

Cavalera decides to stand back up. Cavalera steps back and let's ROCHA get back to his feet.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
ROCHA wants to clinch.
ROCHA tries to clinch there but Cavalera circles away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Cavalera dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Cavalera clinches up with ROCHA and pushes him back against the cage.

Cavalera has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics ROCHA uses from the top position.

Cavalera working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. ROCHA doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. ROCHA manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as ROCHA accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

ROCHA is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

ROCHA wants to stand but Cavalera is controlling his posture from full guard.
Cavalera is trying to keep ROCHA in close.

Cavalera is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
ROCHA not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

ROCHA drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cavalera manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now ROCHA has Cavalera in his guard.

Cavalera pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. ROCHA is keeping the position for now.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.

Cavalera drops back looking for a leg! ROCHA is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and ROCHA manages to kick Cavalera off! Cavalera jumps back into ROCHA's guard.
ROCHA is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Max Cavalera dominated that second round.
OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. This is the final round!


ROCHA misses with a takedown

and Cavalera counters with a takedown into side control.
ROCHA trying to control but Cavalera flips him over like a cheap hooker and has his back!

Despite being in the dominant position, NICOLAS ROCHA just isn't active enough and the referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Cavalera bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
ROCHA can't do much from the bottom here.
ROCHA tries to get back to his feet but has found himself mounted instead. Damn, that's gotta suck.
ROCHA is trying to stand but he's not in a good position to be doing that! Cavalera has taken his back!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Cavalera looking for the choke but no joy.

ROCHA trying to control the hands but Cavalera won't let him.

Cavalera looking to break ROCHA's wrist control so he can sink in the choke. ROCHA remaining controlled and patient though - he really has to keep calm otherwise Cavalera will wrap this one up with the rear naked choke!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
ROCHA wants to control his opponent's hands but Cavalera gets his hands free.

Cavalera looking to finish the fight with a rear naked choke. ROCHA is controlling Cavalera 's left arm and he spins nicely into guard.

Cavalera has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but ROCHA can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
ROCHA is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

ROCHA avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
NICOLAS ROCHA has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Max Cavalera is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as ROCHA accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

And that's the end of the fight!
Max Cavalera showed his dominance in that final round.
Well Cavalera has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
