Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ricky Stephenson (ranked 4253 p4p, 382 weight class) and John Killney (ranked 5289 p4p, 447 weight class). Stephenson kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Ricky Steamboat Theme Song. Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ricky Stephenson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, John Killney! The judges for this bout are Roger Salmon, Colin Fray and Chris Saunders.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Killney uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Stephenson. Killney tries to clinch up. Stephenson is looking to counter punch. A thudding body kick lands there by Killney!
Stephenson throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd. Stephenson digs a good body shot into Killney's ribs. Stephenson throws a big shot that misses. Sloppy strikes from Killney. Those never looked like landing. A counter left hand to the body from Stephenson misses its target. Killney showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Stephenson.
Stephenson takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away. Killney moves out of range as Stephenson strikes. Stephenson scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent. Killney tries to clinch but Stephenson is having none of it. Killney tries to clinch but fails miserably and Killney takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles. The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Killney takes the fight into the clinch. Stephenson trying to control the position but instead, Killney has worked for underhooks and has pushed Stephenson into the ropes.
That's one minute gone in the round. Killney can't find room to land a body shot as Stephenson controls the action.
Killney pushes off and fires off an elbow that misses, before clinching up again, against the ropes. Killney has Stephenson pressed against the ropes, preventing Stephenson from circling away and getting back to striking at range. A head punch blocked on the inside by Killney. Stephenson escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
A telegraphed right hand from Stephenson misses the target. Killney walks into a left hand.
It looks like John Killney has been cut. Stephenson throws an overhand right that lands on Killney's shoulder, as Killney tries to avoid the shot. Killney throws a counter combo. Stephenson throws a body punch but Killney moves out of range.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Stephenson fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Killney looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath. Killney wants to clinch up but Stephenson keeps it at a distance. Stephenson throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land. Killney gets a clinch. Killney goes for a body shot but it's blocked.
Stephenson definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight. Stephenson has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate. Stephenson is trying to maintain a safe position but Killney gets an underhook and turns Stephenson into the ropes. Killney landing knees to the body. They look like they could hurt.
Stephenson is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the ropes. Killney wants to stall.

That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena. The ref breaks the fighters up, due to lack of action by Ricky Stephenson. Killney lets the fists fly and connects with a left straight followed by a right hook. Killney tries to clinch up against the ropes, rushing in to close the distance. Stephenson manages to break the clinch and circles back to the middle of the mat. Stephenson ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Killney moves away. It seemed like Killney was going to counter with the hook but didn't fully commit to it. Stephenson scores with a shot to the body.

Killney bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Killney wants to clinch but Stephenson slips to the side and Stephenson counters with a straight right hand.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Ricky Stephenson! Ricky Stephenson opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
