PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Alistair Velasquez (ranked 3886 p4p, 490 weight class) and Ginekes Poutanes (ranked 2981 p4p, 398 weight class). Velasquez comes into the arena with Fort Minor ft Styles of Beyond - Remember The Name blaring out of the sound system. Ginekes Poutanes will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Alistair Velasquez!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Ginekes Poutanes!
The judges for this bout are Roosa Järviläinen, Arvi Lind and Ben Zyskovitsi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Velasquez shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Poutanes sprawls well. Poutanes wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Velasquez gets slowly back to his feet.
Poutanes stuffs the takedown.
Poutanes works Velasquez's body with a nice hook.
Poutanes looks to land a combination. Velasquez sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Velasquez shoots in but Poutanes avoids the takedown attempt easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Alistair Velasquez. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Poutanes stuffs the takedown attempt from Velasquez. Velasquez gets slowly back to his feet.
Poutanes fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Velasquez shoots in for a takedown but Poutanes shows good takedown defense.
Velasquez shoots in looking for a takedown. Poutanes tries to sprawl out of it but Velasquez keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the ropes. Poutanes manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Poutanes throws a nice hook to the body that draws an oooh from the crowd.

Velasquez closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Velasquez lands in his opponent's guard.
Velasquez throws a big elbow that misses.
Velasquez has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Poutanes looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Velasquez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Poutanes's head.

Poutanes is pulling down on Velasquez's head. It's preventing any offense from Velasquez, at least for the moment.
Velasquez lands a couple of elbows.

Velasquez definitely looks more muscular than last time we saw him fight.

Poutanes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Velasquez. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Poutanes wants to sweep here but Velasquez controlling him for the moment.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.
Velasquez lands a couple of digs.
Poutanes has momentary wrist control but Velasquez slips an elbow through the middle.
Velasquez won't allow Poutanes to sweep him here.
Velasquez postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Velasquez connects with a couple of short punches.


Poutanes is rocked!
Velasquez might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Poutanes has momentary wrist control but Velasquez slips an elbow through the middle.
Poutanes is still in real trouble! Can Velasquez finish him?
Velasquez keeps in close for a moment and lands a decent shot to the side of Poutanes's head.
Velasquez is in close to Poutanes's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Velasquez gets to his feet and stands over Poutanes, holding his ankles. He dives in with a big left hand that connects! Poutanes felt that one! Velasquez unloads more punches and elbows and this one is over! The ref has dived in to save Poutanes from any more punishment!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:18 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Alistair Velasquez!
