Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
17 - 16 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Carter Martin! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
41 - 18 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Luke Johnson! The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, John Kavanagh and Eddie Farnsworth.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Martin fakes a head shot and lands one to the body. Martin has been working on his boxing with his coaches at K.O. Koala's in the buildup to the fight. Johnson closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Martin quickly recovers to half guard. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Johnson wants to pass to mount but Martin is defending the position. Martin is positioning himself well to prevent Johnson advancing to mount. Johnson is trying to control the action in half guard but Martin is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard. Still in half guard, Johnson seems content to control. Martin holds on for dear life, maintaining half guard for now. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Johnson not doing much here.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's one minute gone in the round. A momentary lapse in concentration from Martin enables Johnson to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Martin manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat. Johnson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Martin is keeping the position for now. Martin wants to stand up but Johnson is controlling him. Johnson trying to control the position from guard on top but Martin is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Johnson not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up. Martin keeping moving, preventing Johnson from controlling successfully. Johnson looking to pass the guard. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Johnson trying to control but Martin is working from the bottom. Johnson pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Martin is keeping the position for now.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity. Martin stuffs the takedown attempt from Johnson. Johnson gets slowly back to his feet. Martin misses with a few strikes there.
Johnson shoots in looking for a takedown but Martin manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Johnson's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away. A nice combination there by Martin.
It looks like Luke Johnson has been cut. A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Johnson. Carter Martin has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Luke Johnson. Johnson showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Martin.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Martin connects with a body shot. Martin lands with a good body shot. Johnson shoots in for a takedown but Martin shows good takedown defense. Martin comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range. Johnson will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts. A little feinted left hand from Martin on the counter but he doesn't commit to it. Johnson looks winded! Martin scores with a nice head shot. Johnson throws out a leg kick but Martin moves out of range and Johnson only half commits. Martin gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Martin uses the cage to get back to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Martin lands a body shot.
Johnson takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Martin misses with a two punch combination.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Martin throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Martin cracks Johnson with an open hand slap. Johnson scores with a jab to the body. Johnson has his hands up protecting his head but a hook from Martin finds it's way round the side to connect with Johnson's head. Johnson shoots in for a double leg but Martin sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy. Martin closes the distance and clinches. Martin prevents the takedown attempt.
Martin wants to push off and get back to the center of the mat but Johnson has him pressed against the cage. Martin is trying to work out of this bad position, with his back against the cage. Both guys are working to get underhooks. Johnson misses with a punch on the inside.
Johnson tries a body shot but Martin blocks it.

Martin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Carter Martin dominated that round. The cut man is working on Luke Johnson's cut. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!
Martin lands a left and a right that send Johnson crashing to the mat, dazed. Martin thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!
Johnson is still looking wobbly from the end of the last round! Martin moves into the clinch. Johnson is still on wobbly legs! Can Martin finish him? Martin breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Johnson is looking to clinch but Martin is avoiding it.
Johnson tries for a takedown but Martin circles away easily and Martin counters with a right hand to the body. Martin circles away before darting back in with a big straight right hand. It connects beautifully and sends Johnson tumbling to the canvas! He's out cold! Martin wins by KO!
