Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, John Winters!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, Sgt James Doakes!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Alyssa Summers and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Doakes closes the distance and pushes Winters back into the cage.
Winters can't find room to land a body shot as Doakes controls the action.
Doakes lands with a right to the head.
Doakes working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Winters jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Doakes walks away with a smile on his face. Winters gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Doakes moves into the clinch.

Doakes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.

Winters jumps guard but Doakes stands there with Winters around his waist. Winters gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.
A quick uppercut on the inside from Doakes.
Doakes lands a shoulder strike.
Doakes lands a hook that snaps the head of Winters backwards.
Doakes misses with an elbow over the top.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Winters tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Doakes just stands there and leans against the cage.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for John Winters. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Winters is trying to work for a single leg takedown but Doakes pulls him back up using the underhooks.
Winters takes a shot to the head.
Winters takes an elbow to the temple.

Winters slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Doakes.

Winters seems to have got his legs back now.
Doakes really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Winters. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Winters takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Winters is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Doakes is just riding it out for now. Winters eventually gives up the hold.
Winters is breathing heavily.

Winters stops Doakes from getting back to his feet.
Doakes is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Winters wants to control but Doakes is keeping him busy.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Winters is going to have to think about doing something other than just controlling because Doakes is managing to avoid having the position dictated to him.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Winters fails with the takedown.

Doakes gets a clinch.
The fighters are starting to get sweaty, which will make takedowns a bit more tricky.
Doakes slows down the pace here.
Winters drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Doakes gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Doakes lands with a left to the head.

Doakes ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Doakes no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Winters drops back looking for a leg! Doakes is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Doakes manages to kick Winters off! Winters jumps back into Doakes's guard.
Doakes is looking to stand up but Winters isn't so interested in that idea.

Doakes thows some rabbit punches from the bottom but they don't do any damage.
Doakes wants to stand up but Winters is controlling him.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Doakes tries to strike from the bottom.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Doakes leaves Winters with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
John Winters is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Doakes tries to kick Winters off but Winters keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Doakes is looking for a sweep. Winters is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Doakes is striking from the bottom but he's now found himself mounted! Oh dear - not enough focus on defense there.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Doakes tries to reverse the position but Winters maintains control.
You get the feeling that Doakes really doesn't like being in this position too much.
Doakes has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Doakes is trying desperately to improve position.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Doakes can do anything to dispel that myth.
Winters has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Doakes's face.

Winters is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Doakes is surviving well by controlling Winters's body position as best he can.
Doakes wants to get back to his feet.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Doakes takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Winters breaks from Doakes's wrist control and lands an elbow.

Sgt James Doakes is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Winters has control of Doakes's right arm, working for a kimura. It's a bit of a token attempt though and Doakes regains control of the situation pretty easily.
Doakes controls the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Doakes tries to lock up and control but Winters gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

And that's the end of the fight!
John Winters showed his dominance in that final round.
I think Doakes has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
