PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Vlkomir Jahoda (ranked 23686 p4p, 0 weight class) and Yury Konstantin (ranked 6456 p4p, 0 weight class). Yury Konstantin told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 4 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Vlkomir Jahoda!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Yury Konstantin!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Konstantin Menshow and Valeri Chadov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Konstantin uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Yury Konstantin seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Jahoda dives in for a single leg takedown but Konstantin sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage.
Konstantin scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Jahoda goes for a double leg but Konstantin avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Konstantin continues to drive forward.

Konstantin lands a left and a right that send Jahoda crashing to the mat, dazed. Konstantin thinks about following him to the mat but decides to wave him back up to his feet!


It looks like Vlkomir Jahoda has been cut.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Jahoda dodges the punch combination from Konstantin.

Jahoda gets caught flat footed, as Konstantin shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Konstantin wants to stand but Jahoda is controlling his posture from full guard.

Jahoda pulls Konstantin in to control the position.
Konstantin is looking to stand up but Jahoda won't let him.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Konstantin throws a good cross that connects.

Jahoda tries to sprawl but Konstantin drives through with a takedown into half guard.
Jahoda is holding on to half guard well.
Jahoda is looking for a sweep. Konstantin is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Jahoda is positioning himself well to prevent Konstantin advancing to mount.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Konstantin tries to stand but his hand is stuck under Jahoda.
Jahoda wants to control but Konstantin is keeping busy.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.
It looks like Konstantin is going to stand back up.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Konstantin tries to score with a low kick but Jahoda moves his leg out of the way.
Jahoda is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
Jahoda will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Vlkomir Jahoda. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Jahoda misses with a takedown attempt

and Konstantin counters with a takedown into side control! That could mean trouble for Jahoda!
Jahoda is breathing heavily.
Konstantin wants to stand but Jahoda is controlling his arm.
Jahoda wants to control but Konstantin postures up.
Konstantin tries to stand but Jahoda is controlling his head.
Jahoda keeping his opponent close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Konstantin decides to stand back up. Konstantin steps back and let's Jahoda get back to his feet.
Konstantin misses with a two punch combination.
Konstantin lets loose with a powerful body kick. Jahoda will feel that in the morning.
Jahoda tries to close the distance and clinch up but Konstantin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A right-left combo lands from Konstantin.
Konstantin lunges at Jahoda with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Jahoda's hand.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jahoda shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Konstantin as he jumps to the side.
Nice sprawl there from Konstantin as Jahoda shoots in.
Jahoda tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Konstantin defends well and Jahoda ends up having to push Konstantin into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.
Konstantin connects with the punch.
Konstantin lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

Konstantin feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Konstantin wants to get up but he can't break Jahoda's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Konstantin must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Jahoda has Konstantin pulled in close to control his posture.
Konstantin tries to stand but Jahoda is controlling from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Yury Konstantin dominated that round.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action.



Konstantin closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Konstantin lands in his opponent's guard.
Yury Konstantin has got the better of the ground game so far.

Konstantin wants to stand but Jahoda is controlling his posture from full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Jahoda is looking to cinch up a triangle. Konstantin throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Jahoda's body to avoid the submission. Jahoda has instead reached around Konstantin's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Jahoda arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:56 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Vlkomir Jahoda!
