PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Coleman Rowe (ranked 5990 p4p, 0 weight class) and Slipp Rock (ranked 6013 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Coleman Rowe!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Slipp Rock!
The judges for this bout are Paul Gruel, Micheangelo Fripello and Chris Saunders.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rock swings away with a body shot that misses
and Rowe counters with a straight right hand.
Rock throws a right hand that Rowe ducks under and follows up with a left that Rowe also avoids with ease.

Rock drives through with a takedown into guard.
Rock throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Rock controls from within his opponent's guard.
Rock has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Rock stands up from Rowe's guard - Rock perhaps looking for a knockout.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rowe misses with an uppercut
and Rock counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Rock pulls out of a head kick attempt.
A nice leg kick lands there from Rock.
Rowe could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Rowe tries to keep at a distance but Rock has taken the fight into the clinch.

Rowe stalling.
Rowe has Rock pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Rock manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
The two fighters are working to gain dominance in the clinch.
With the fighters up against the cage, Rowe throws an elbow but misses.

Rock gets control of Rowe's arms and successfully pulls guard. Rock will no doubt be looking for submissions off his back.
Rock wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Rock pushes Rowe off and gets back to his feet.
Rock looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.

Rowe takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Rock showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from Rowe.
Rock throws a sloppy head kick and Rowe moves out of range easily.

Rock shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rock was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rowe tries to wriggle free to get back to his feet but he's given up his back! Oops.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Rock is working really hard to secure the rear naked choke. Rowe defends successfully for a significant amount of time. Both fighters are looking very determined.
Rowe is trying to get back to his feet but Rock has full control of the position and if anything, Rowe has just worked his way into a worse spot.
Rock has good solid back control here.
The crowd hopeful of a finish here - Rock's supporters are on their feet, screaming for him to go for the rear naked choke.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Rowe avoids the strikes from Rock.
Rock wants to control the position but Rowe frees himself and scrambles - Rock manages to regain control in side control.
Rock in side control, throwing shots but Rowe defends.
Rowe can't do much from the bottom here.
Rock laying and praying for a moment but Rowe takes advantage and regains half guard.
Rowe missing with punches from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slipp Rock dominated that round.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action!



Rock shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Rock was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Rowe tries to get back to half guard but can't.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Rock just content to control the position.
You can see the frustration on Rowe's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Rowe might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rowe regains half guard there - taking advantage of Rock's attempt to lay and pray for a moment.
Rowe is trying to stand up here but Rock is controlling him well.

Rowe trying to control but Rock postures up.
Rock throws a strike but Rowe avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Rock trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Rock is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Rock stands up and waves to Rowe to follow him.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.

Rock drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Rowe sneaks out the side door and pushes Rock away - he's back to his feet. The crowd show their appreciation for the escape.

Rock closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Rock stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Rock's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Rock moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Rock tries to close the distance and clinch up but Rowe swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Rock closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Rowe's guard.
Rock sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Rock loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Rock has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Rock postures up.
Rock trying to control but Rowe is working from the bottom.
Rock with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Rock works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Rock controlling the action here.
Rowe is not content to let Rock control the position.
Rock moves nicely into side control.
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.
Rowe is trying to control Rock's posture but Rock avoids it.
Rock tries to land with some ground and pound but misses.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Slipp Rock showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! This is the final round!



Rock closes the distance and gets a trip takedown into side control. Rowe quickly recovers to half guard.
Rowe is looking for a sweep. Rock is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Rowe keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Rock misses with a head shot. Rowe uses the momentum to regain guard.
Rock working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Rock controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Rowe doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Rock is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Rowe throws a couple of shots from the bottom but they don't land.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Rowe gets caught napping as Rock dives in and scores a takedown. Rowe manages to retain guard.
Rowe throws a couple of weedy looking strikes off his back.

Rowe looking for a guillotine here but Rock defends easily.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Rock slips nicely into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Rock is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Rowe defends it well.
Rock performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Rowe flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Rowe avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Rock.
Rock controlling the pace.

Rock throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man.
Rock stalling.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Rock gets a takedown into half guard.
Rock is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Rock is working for a kimura but Rowe is defending it quite comfortably.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

Rowe is defending against the submission attempts here by Rock.

And that's the end of the fight!
Slipp Rock comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Rock has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
