PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Thomas Clawnes (ranked 3199 p4p, 392 weight class) and Gunnar Wylde (ranked 2379 p4p, 306 weight class). Clawnes comes to the cage accompanied by My name is MUD. Wylde has chosen Black Label Society - Parade of the Dead as his entrance music, which hasn't gone down very well with the crowd. The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 28 - 24 - 1, fighting out of Los Angeles, Thomas Clawnes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 13 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Gunnar Wylde!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Frank Dennis and Daniel Franklin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A combination from Wylde does no damage.
Wylde throws a sloppy head kick and Clawnes moves out of range easily.
A telegraphed right hand from Clawnes misses the target.
Clawnes pushes forward with a 1-2 combination that forces Wylde back to the cage. Clawnes follows up with a solid lead hook to the liver.


It looks like Gunnar Wylde has been cut.
Wylde is looking to clinch.
Wylde listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
The fighters circling - Clawnes throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Clawnes tries to clinch up but Wylde circles away and keeps his distance.
Wylde has been spending a lot of time sparring his boxing in the run up to the fight, trying to sharpen up those hands and look for a knockout.

Wylde gets a clinch.
Clawnes blocks an uppercut.
Clawnes can't break the clinch.

Clawnes breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Wylde cracks Clawnes with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.
A cross from Wylde lands.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Wylde is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Wylde closes the distance but Clawnes moves to the side
and Clawnes counters with a one-two to the body.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A big left from Clawnes misses.
Clawnes avoids a kick to the body.
Wylde moves in looking to clinch but Clawnes pushes him off.

Wylde clinches up with Clawnes and pushes him back against the cage.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Clawnes.
Clawnes works on Wylde's body with a couple of short punches.

Clawnes breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Wylde getting the better of the striking in that exchange.


It looks like Thomas Clawnes has been cut.
Clawnes lands with a straight right. Wylde didn't see that one coming.
Clawnes connects with a good right hand that stumbles Wylde. Wylde circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Clawnes takes one to the chin there.
Wylde scores with a hook.

Wylde darts in and clinches Clawnes up against the cage.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Clawnes lands with a left to the head.
Wylde working on landing some head shots here - that one got through nicely.
Wylde lands on the inside with an uppercut.
Wylde stalling the fight.

Wylde pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.

Wylde misses with a head kick.
Clawnes takes one on the chin but seems OK.
Clawnes ducks under a wild hook from Wylde.
Wylde wants to clinch up but Clawnes keeps it at a distance.
Clawnes lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Clawnes walks into a jab.
Clawnes cracks Wylde with a right hand to the side of the head.


That has opened up Gunnar Wylde's cut even more.

Wylde clinches up with Clawnes and pushes him back against the cage.
Clawnes blocks a punch to the side of the head.

Wylde breaks the clinch.
Wylde slips a straight right by Clawnes.
Wylde lunges at Clawnes with a hook that half lands and is half blocked by Clawnes's hand.
Wylde leaves Clawnes with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
Wylde connects with a crisp jab.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Wylde misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Clawnes was looking to counter that move with a punch but didn't quite pull the trigger.
Clawnes misses with a jab, cross combination.
Decent striking displayed by Clawnes there.
Wylde lands a lovely overhand right.


Clawnes is rocked!

Wylde takes the fight into the clinch.
Wylde tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
Clawnes tried to land a shot to the body but connects with Wylde's elbow.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Wylde.
Wylde lands an uppercut.
Still in the clinch, Wylde scores with a nice short uppercut.
Oh Clawnes is still all over the place! His legs are completely gone! Will he be able to recover?!!
Wylde lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Clawnes to his knees! Wylde keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:46 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Gunnar Wylde!
After the fight, Gunnar Wylde was humble in paying tribute to his opponent but made it clear he wants to go on to bigger and better things. It seemed to go down well with the crowd who cheered him loudly.
