The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santana misses with a takedown attempt - Monahan sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

We've been hearing good reports from Santana's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.

Monahan really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Santana. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Santana looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Monahan with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Santana seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Monahan does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Santana is in full mount, looking to secure a guillotine but Monahan is surviving well by controlling Santana's body position as best he can.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Santana goes for an armbar but Monahan turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Monahan.

Santana has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Monahan doesn't defend quickly enough and Santana has managed to lock this one up! Can Monahan escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Santana on a fantastic submission victory.
