Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Alan Patton!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, John Smith!
The judges for this bout are Frank Antenori, Don Winkell and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A head kick misses from Patton.
Smith avoids a kick to the body.
Smith is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here.
Smith closes the distance and clinches.
Smith is trying to maintain a safe position but Patton gets an underhook and turns Smith into the cage.
Smith pulls Patton into guard.
Patton would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.
Patton postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Patton is looking to stand up but Smith won't let him.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Patton throws a big elbow that misses.
Smith not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Smith is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Smith working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Patton.
The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.
Smith shoots in and bounces Patton off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Smith trying to control the position from guard on top but Patton is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Smith lands a couple of elbows.
Patton not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Smith throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Patton works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Smith throwing strikes from guard but Patton blocks nicely.

Smith prevents Patton from getting back to his feet.

Patton has an active guard here but Smith has managed to pass into half guard.
Patton is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Smith has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Smith is working to isolate an arm here. It's a telegraphed submission attempt but he's gone for it anyway - and he's got it! Smith extends the arm and Patton is forced to tap!
