Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Dave Hanson!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 9 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Njord Freyr!
The judges for this bout are Steve Erwin, Winston Howard and Damien Edna.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Freyr throws a body punch but Hanson moves out of range.
Hanson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Freyr throws a series of punches but Hanson moves out of range.
Hanson shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Freyr but Freyr pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Freyr bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Hanson's head backwards.
Hanson scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.
Freyr scores with a nice strike.
Hanson takes a step towards his opponent and connects with a left hand, before circling away.
Freyr just misses with a punch to the body.
Hanson keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Freyr throws a nice looking combination but Hanson bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Hanson rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Freyr moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Hanson looks for a takedown but Freyr sprawls well.

Hanson scores with a takedown into Freyr's guard.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Hanson won't allow Freyr to sweep him here.

Hanson with a flurry of punches that miss.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Freyr keeping full guard, as Hanson tries to pass.
Hanson trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Hanson wants to control from the top but Freyr keeps moving.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Freyr can do anything to dispel that myth.
Freyr pulls Hanson in close to prevent any damage.

Hanson is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Hanson has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Hanson cracks Freyr with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Hanson lands a left and a right that sends Freyr crashing to the canvas! Hanson dives into mount looking to finish!


Freyr is rocked!
Hanson avoids the attempt from Freyr to control.
Hanson throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Freyr because Hanson loaded up on that one.
Freyr is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

Hanson wants to finish this one by submission but Freyr is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Hanson.
Freyr is looking to improve his position but Hanson isn't that keen on the idea.
Hanson with the ground and pound from mount.
A nice elbow there by Hanson.
Poor strikes thrown by Hanson there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Freyr slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Freyr really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hanson. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Hanson wants to take a breather but Freyr is having none of it.

Freyr is defending against the submission attempts here by Hanson.

Hanson sitting in half guard, looking to land shots. Freyr defending well though.
Hanson is thwarting Freyr's attempts to control the position.
Hanson passes the guard and advances to mount!
Freyr working to try and regain half guard.

Hanson looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Freyr is desperately trying to get back to half guard.
Poor strikes thrown by Hanson there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!
Freyr tries to lock up and control but Hanson gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Hanson is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Freyr can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
Freyr tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Freyr tries to hold on but Hanson postures up.
Freyr is squirming around, avoiding Hanson's attempts to control the action.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hanson thowing shots but they're missing.

Hanson has hold of an arm here, looking to extend it. He's committed to the armbar attempt here! Will he get it?! Yes! Freyr is forced to tap!
