Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Silas Monk (ranked 18 p4p, 1 weight class) and Ueda Umanouke (ranked 39 p4p, 4 weight class). Umanouke is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Kenji Kawai's Making of a Cyborg. The fight MMA fans around the world have waited their entire lives for!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 24 - 10 - 0, fighting out of New York, Silas Monk!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 0, fighting out of London, Ueda Umanouke!
The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and Jack Bonds.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Monk throws a shot to the body.

Umanouke shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Monk manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

Umanouke with a nice head shot there.
Umanouke pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Monk is keeping the position for now.
Monk has control of Umanouke's left arm, preventing Umanouke from doing any damage.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Monk utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Umanouke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Umanouke won't allow Monk to sweep him here.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Umanouke postures up.
Monk is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

Monk knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Umanouke on the ground.
Umanouke passes Monk's left leg - he's now in half guard.

The fighters are battling for position here. Monk manages to regain full guard. Nice work.
Umanouke is looking to work some ground and pound but Monk has wrist control.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Umanouke accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Monk has momentary wrist control but Umanouke slips an elbow through the middle.
Umanouke has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Umanouke passes into half guard.
Umanouke passes to full mount!

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Umanouke misses with a head shot.

Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

That's three minutes gone in the round.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Umanouke cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!
Umanouke landing shots from mount.
Umanouke punching from mount but Monk doing a good job of avoiding damage.
Umanouke misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.
Umanouke lands a big shot there that rocks Monk but he's holding on and managing to survive for now.
Monk tries to lock up and control but Umanouke gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.

Monk can't escape the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
BOOM! Umanouke connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Monk is trying to escape the mount.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Umanouke lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Umanouke postures up and throws a couple of big shots that have Monk in real trouble here! The ref calls for Monk to improve his position which he doesn't do, so the referee has no choice but to end the fight due to the strikes!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:41 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Ueda Umanouke!
Ueda Umanouke is the new heavyweight champion!
Ueda Umanouke spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
