PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between King Ray (ranked 6064 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brody Roberts (ranked 5866 p4p, 582 weight class). Roberts is bouncing up and down as he enters the arena, backed by Cowboys from Hell. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, King Ray!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brody Roberts!
The judges for this bout are Robert Douchet, Gregory Folan and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Roberts throws a body kick despite being completely out of range

and Ray counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Ray.
Ray looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Roberts tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Ray stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Roberts swivels though and keeps the full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Ray trying to control the position from guard on top but Roberts is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Ray stands and steps away. Roberts gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.

Ray gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Ray pulls Roberts in to control the position.
Ray might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.
Ray looking to hit a scissor sweep but Roberts is one step ahead there.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ray doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.
Ray lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Ray trying to control the position from guard on top but Roberts is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Roberts being controlled here, momentarily.
Ray could do with losing a few pounds - he looks very soft around the mid section, to put it politely.
Roberts wants to stand and escape but Ray is having none of it.

Roberts is looking for a triangle here but Ray uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.
Roberts struggling a bit here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ray tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Ray has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Roberts is being controlled here.

Ray is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Roberts knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Ray trying to control the position but Roberts is working away.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Roberts is pushing Ray's head away, looking to escape. Ray manages to hold on to the position though.
Ray postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.

Roberts throws Ray to one side and escapes!

Roberts scores with a takedown into Ray's guard.
Roberts scoring with some ground and pound.
Roberts scoring with punches to the head and body.
Roberts wants to control from the top but Ray keeps moving.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Roberts tries to stand but Ray is controlling from the bottom.
Ray is trying to control the position but Roberts postures up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Brody Roberts will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Roberts scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Ray sneaks back into half guard.
Brody Roberts has got the better of the ground game so far.
Ray is looking for a sweep. Roberts is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Ray is not content to let Roberts control the position.
Ray tries to roll over but Roberts keeps him under control.
Roberts passes to full mount!
BOOM! Roberts connects with a massive shot to the dome!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ray tries to lock up and control but Roberts gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Ray is in all sorts of trouble here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Roberts pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Ray is trying desperately to improve position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Roberts controlling his opponent.
Roberts lands a nice shot to the head.
Ray throwing hammer fists to the chest of Roberts. What's that going to do exactly?
Ray is flailing around like a fish out of water, trying to land strikes.
Roberts is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Roberts prevents Ray from getting the reversal.
Roberts with shots to the head and body - Ray looks very uncomfortable down there.
Roberts avoids the attempt from Ray to control.
Roberts lands a couple of good shots and Ray has given up his back, trying to escape the position!


Ray is rocked!
A helpless look comes across Ray 's face. He knows he's trapped as Roberts lands a series of unanswered strikes. The ref steps in to stop the fight and this one is in the books!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:59 of round 2, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Brody Roberts!
Brody Roberts decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
