The bell rings for round one and we are underway! We've got one fighter who appears to only be looking to counter and the other not looking particularly aggressive either, so we could be in for a dull fight. Diaz shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Let's see what he's got on the mat. Smith has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Diaz can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself. Diaz is posturing up here but Smith has hold of an arm and he's gone for an armbar! Diaz tries to roll out but it's too tight and Diaz has to tap! Slick submission there by Smith!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:22 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Armbar). Joe Smith! Joe Smith decided to go for the less than humble approach in his post fight interview, telling everyone how he is going to conquer the world. The crowd seemed to like it when really that sort of approach could have gone either way.
