Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 2 - 1, fighting out of St Petersburg, Forest Tran! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Dani Alves! The judges for this bout are Aleksandr Martynov, Vladimir Khabensky and Dmitry Maklakov.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Alves moves into the clinch. Alves escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Excellent takedown into side control there by Alves. Tran is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Alves looks up at the clock and then as Tran takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Alves smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!
Tran is trying to control Alves's posture but Alves avoids it. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Tran is looking to reverse the position.
That's one minute gone in the round. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Alves scores with a couple of nice shots to the head there. The referee takes a look at Tran to see if he's OK. Tran trying to remain calm as Alves controls from the top position. Alves tries to get to his feet but he's trapped momentarily. Alves is staying tight to Tran's torso, preventing him from escaping. Alves lands an elbow. Tran tries to improve position but can't. Alves happy to just control the position for now.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Alves stands up and we're back to a striking position. Alves shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Alves controlling the action here.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Alves has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount. Tran knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Alves on the ground. Tran wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Alves.
That's four minutes gone in the round. The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so. Alves looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.
Tran is rocked! Tran takes a big shot to the dome and his eyes have rolled back in his head! Alves's killer instinct has kicked in as he finishes the fight with more strikes. Impressive finish.
