Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
10 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Eusebio Zapata! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
10 - 9 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Manuel Lora! The judges for this bout are Timothy Bukovac, Jack Bonds and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Lora takes a jab on the nose there. A little bit of blood seems to be coming out. Hopefully that won't affect his breathing.
Zapata fails to land with a series of punches.
Left hook, right uppercut from Zapata. Lora uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Zapata.
Lora drops down looking to force a counter takedown but Zapata defends it well. Zapata fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Lora has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage. Lora slips under a jab. Lora closes the distance and clinches up with Zapata, looking for a takedown. Lora pushes Zapata against the cage but Zapata circles to the side and manages to break the clinch. Lora walks into a stiff left hand from Zapata. Zapata clobbers Lora with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise. Lora slips under a jab from Zapata. Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show! Zapata paws at his opponent with the jab and then lunges in with a straight, right on the button. Lora defending well as Zapata loads up on a big left hand. Lora is definitely looking for the counter takedowns here. Zapata scores with a jab. Lora acknowledges it with a nod of the head. Lora takes one on the button. Zapata throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Lora on the side of the head. Zapata throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Lora's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Zapata dives in looking to finish as Lora flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Zapata's strikes! Zapata is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Lora's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Lora was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Eusebio Zapata! During a confident post fight interview, Eusebio Zapata thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
