PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Zsiga Venczel (ranked 1376 p4p, 201 weight class) and Viktor Grishin (ranked 1815 p4p, 266 weight class). Grishin has chosen Danger as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Zsiga Venczel!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 11 - 9 - 0, fighting out of London, Viktor Grishin!
The judges for this bout are Alec Ball, Trevor Gratis and Elvis Blanc.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Venczel lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.
Venczel turns his hip over beautifully as he lands a nice leg kick.
Venczel scores with a hook.
Venczel misses with a low kick.
Venczel tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Grishin was well out of range. Poor timing from Venczel.
Venczel throws out a loose jab but Grishin uses good head movement to avoid it.
Grishin looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.

Venczel moves into the clinch.
Venczel misses with a punch on the inside.
Venczel is stalling here.

Grishin pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Grishin fails with the takedown.
Venczel tries to counter by clinching up but Grishin breaks away and moves out of range.
Venczel lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.
Grishin takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.

Venczel is the aggressor but that punch slipped nicely by Grishin.

Grishin shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in side control! That's better than Grishin was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Venczel is not content to let Grishin control the position.
Grishin throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Grishin is working the ground and pound from guard. He might want to try advancing position though to get more of an impact.

Venczel is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Grishin is doing well to control the position and prevent Venczel from advancing to side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Venczel is nestled in close to Grishin, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Venczel throws a strike but Grishin avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Grishin seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.

Venczel throws a poor cross that misses
and Grishin counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.

Grishin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Venczel moves into full guard.
Grishin scoring with some ground and pound.
Venczel utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.

Hammerfist, elbow! yells Grishin's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Grishin lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Grishin throws an elbow that misses. Venczel uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Grishin's guard. Nice move by Venczel!

Venczel postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Venczel lands a nice shot whilst sitting in his opponent's guard.

Venczel drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Grishin dives on top into guard.

Grishin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

Venczel is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Grishin defends well.

Venczel is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Grishin is just riding it out for now. Venczel eventually gives up the hold.
Grishin is looking to control Venczel's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Grishin avoid being mounted?

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Grishin on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Venczel. Venczel obviously looking to wear him down.

Grishin throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Venczel tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Grishin is in Venczel's guard.

Venczel went nuts there looking for a big combo counter but none of the flurry connected.

Venczel lands with a straight right. Grishin didn't see that one coming.
Venczel tries to close the distance and clinch up but Grishin swats him away and circles back towards the center.

Grishin rushes Venczel and pushes him back against the cage in a clinch.

Venczel manages to break the clinch.
Grishin shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Venczel sprawls well. Venczel wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Grishin gets slowly back to his feet.
Zsiga Venczel has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Viktor Grishin.

Venczel clinches up against the cage.
Venczel lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
A nice right hand lands inside from Venczel.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Venczel.

Venczel wants to break free but Grishin has control.
Grishin is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Venczel escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.

Venczel is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Grishin's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Grishin's back!
Even with his hooks in, Venczel manages to miss with strikes from the back.
Grishin just trying to survive but Venczel is wriggling into a better position, looking to finish.
Grishin covering up well under a barage of strikes.
Venczel throws strikes from the back but Grishin rolls nicely and manages to end up in full guard. Nice work by Grishin.

Well Venczel has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.

Zsiga Venczel opened up his post fight interview with a scream to camera that he wants a title shot! Whether he deserves the shot will be up to the management of the organization, so I guess he'll have to wait and see.
