PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Barack Obama (ranked 403 p4p, 15 weight class) and Johnny Pearson (ranked 748 p4p, 35 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Johnny Pearson was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 26 - 26 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Barack Obama!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 9 - 0, fighting out of New York, Johnny Pearson!
The judges for this bout are Jonathan Paton, Chad Campbell and Lou da Vinci.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pearson is looking to land body kicks.
As Pearson tries to get set, Obama tries to push him back and clinch up but Pearson manages to avoid the attempt.
Obama throws a series of punches but Pearson avoids them all with ease.
Pearson throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Obama keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
We've been told by Obama's head coaches at LOD: Lightning Kicks (MaxID290K) that he's been working on his takedown defense in preparation for this fight.
Pearson wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
Obama staying out of range there.

Obama instigates a clinch.
Pearson blocking some punches.
Pearson takes a shot to the head.

Obama is trying to trip Pearson. He has hold of a leg but Pearson is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Obama persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Pearson wants to stand and escape but Obama is having none of it.

Obama advances position into side control!

Obama is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Pearson is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Obama tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Obama has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Obama wants to control but Pearson is keeping him busy.

Obama tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Pearson is putting a lot of effort into getting back to his feet here.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Pearson is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Obama looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Obama swings around for an armbar but Pearson sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Obama's guard.

Obama wants to sweep but no luck.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Obama working for submissions but it's allowed Pearson to get to half guard.

Pearson decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Johnny Pearson is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Obama takes a step back and watches a body kick go sailing past his mid section.
Well, he's not going to score with shots like that. A lazy body kick attempt from Pearson.
Obama dips down and scores with a jab to the body.

Obama has taken the fight to the clinch.
Pearson misses with a body punch.
An uppercut on the inside fails to land for Obama.
Pearson scores a nice knee to the body.
Obama has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Pearson avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Pearson misses with a hook to the ribs.
Obama tries for a takedown. No joy.
A head punch blocked on the inside by Obama.
With the fighters clinched against the cage, Pearson creates a bit of distance for himself and scores with a nice uppercut.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Pearson trying to land knees to the body.
Pearson can't find room to land a body shot as Obama controls the action.
Obama misses with a short punch on the inside.
Nice body punch from Pearson - that landed with a thud.
Pearson misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Obama.
Obama blocks a knee to the body. He'll have a nicely bruised forearm in the morning.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Pearson putting his Muay Thai to good use. He has Obama in a tight clinch and is doing some damage with knees to the body.

Obama tries to work over Pearson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Pearson throws an elbow but it misses.
Pearson is looking to score with knees to the body. Maybe he'll change it up and go body then head. Obama is defending well for now.

Obama tries to work over Pearson's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Pearson lands a hook to the body. It's hard to tell if that hurt Obama or not.
Obama lands with a short head shot on the inside.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Barack Obama will probably get the nod.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Pearson tries to land a front kick but Obama steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.
As Pearson looks to move away, Obama throws a big counter combo but Pearson just gets out of the way.
Pearson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Pearson moves into range and lands a nice leg kick.
Pearson throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.
Obama shoots in for a takedown but Pearson shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Obama sets himself, and Pearson steps forward looking for the clinch! Obama avoids it this time.
Pearson uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.

Obama drops Pearson with a left right combo! Obama follows him down to the ground into side control.


Pearson is rocked!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Obama wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Pearson, who protects the arm well.
Pearson is still in real trouble! Can Obama finish him?
