Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
2 - 5 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Cristobal Gibson! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Jr Smith ! The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Albert Achterberg and Saam Ante.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Smith misses with a wild combination.
Smith is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two. Gibson shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Gibson showed some decent athleticism there. Gibson landing with strikes to the body and head, softening up his opponent. Gibson prevents Smith from standing back up.
Gibson missing with some ground and pound from the half guard. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Smith is trying to stand up here but Gibson is controlling him well. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Gibson throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Gibson looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Smith with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Gibson working over Smith with some ground and pound. Smith looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable. Smith wants to get back to his feet. Smith avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gibson. Smith is trying to stand.
The referee decides to stand the fighters back up. Smith closes the distance and clinches. Smith is trying to force a seperation but Gibson has the dominant position. Smith tries to circle away but Gibson has him pinned against the cage. Smith misses with some punches.
A bit of stalling here from Gibson.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Gibson looking to hit a scissor sweep but Smith is one step ahead there. Smith wants to stand and escape but instead Gibson has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard. Gibson prevents Smith from getting back to his feet. Smith is using up a lot of energy trying to get back to his feet. Perhaps he should improve his position first. Gibson chips away with some ground and pound.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Gibson is working Smith over from the guard. He should look to pass the guard and do a little more damage with these strikes. Smith wants to stand up but Gibson is controlling him. Gibson missing there with some ground and pound from the guard. Gibson working some strikes from top position. Gibson might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground. Gibson is looking to work some ground and pound but Smith has wrist control. Smith is looking to stand up but Gibson isn't so interested in that idea.
The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
That's four minutes gone in the round. My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer. The fight moves into the clinch position. Smith is looking to break free of the clinch but Gibson has double underhooks. A frustrated look appears on Smith 's face as he tries to break the clinch. Gibson tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Smith just stands there and leans against the cage. Gibson jumps guard.
Smith is looking to stand up but Gibson won't let him. There's a bit of a scramble here and now Gibson is on top in guard.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Smith wants to stand up but Gibson is controlling him. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Jr Smith showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!
