Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jeff Warner (ranked 5397 p4p, 235 weight class) and Gregory Simmons (ranked 3900 p4p, 181 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of

5 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Gregory Simmons! The judges for this bout are Paulo Santos, Daniel Cesar and Mauricio Rocha.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Horrible takedown attempt by Warner or perhaps it was just good defense by Simmons, which made it look bad. Warner gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard. Warner wants to get back to his feet but Simmons passes into half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Simmons is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Warner has managed to free his arm - good work. My spies in Melhor Lutador MMA inform me that Simmons has been getting involved in the gym's BJJ sparring sessions. Let's see whether that pays dividends! Simmons looks to score some points with some ground and pound. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Simmons wants to free his trapped foot but Warner is holding on for dear life with his legs. Simmons has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan. Warner throws a strike from the bottom that misses.

Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Simmons in particular looking to stall. Simmons is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.
Simmons seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense. Simmons lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless. Simmons is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position. Simmons lands strikes from half guard. Simmons works his way into full mount! Warner is working to get back to half guard.

Simmons with shots to the head and body - Warner looks very uncomfortable down there. Warner tries to reverse the position but Simmons maintains control. Simmons punishing his opponent with strikes. Simmons lands a heavy elbow. Warner tries to hold on but Simmons pushes him away. Warner looking to escape from mount but he's given up his back! Simmons controls the position. Let's hope that Simmons has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Simmons looking for the choke from the back. Simmons lands with a nice looking elbow that stuns Warner.
What can Warner do to escape this position? He's going to have to figure it out pretty quick if he wants to stay in the fight!

The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so! Simmons trying to secure his dominant position for a moment - making sure Warner doesn't escape. The crowd thankful this round is nearly over. Simmons's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Gregory Simmons dominated that round. That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Warner has been working on his balance at Melhor Lutador MMA, so perhaps that has help him stuff some of the takedown attempts by Simmons. Warner is working for takedown but Simmons is calmly controlling the position for now. Simmons turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control! Warner is trying to escape the position but Simmons is controlling the position. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Simmons cracks Warner with a big right hand but Warner just smiles back at him and invites him to have another go.

That's two minutes gone in the round. Simmons advances to mount. Simmons controlling his opponent. Simmons connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
Simmons takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Simmons scoring with strikes but Warner is staying in there.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Warner wants to control but Simmons is having none of it. Warner tries to control the position but Simmons now has his back.
Good control from Simmons. Simmons is continuing to stall. Simmons is persistently looking for the submission but Warner is defending it well.

That's four minutes gone in the round. Warner is displaying good submission defense - not really looking in danger of submitting to the rear naked choke at the moment. That could change in an instant of course if Simmons gets his way!

Gregory Simmons showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!
A looping hook to the body misses from Simmons. Warner does a little dance to reset his feet. Warner feinted with a counter takedown. Warner misses with a takedown attempt - Simmons sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Simmons closes the distance and clinches. A battle for position here, against the cage. Simmons pulls guard effortlessly. Warner wants to stand and escape but instead Simmons has hit a sweep and he's now on top in guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Warner tries to roll over but Simmons keeps him under control. Warner is trying to maintain the position but Simmons is very close to passing his half guard.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Simmons perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there. Warner tries to strike from the bottom but it doesn't land. The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up. Neither fighter is being very active at the moment, with Simmons in particular looking to stall.
The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity. Simmons has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Excellent takedown into side control there by Simmons. Warner tries to improve position but can't. Warner wants to control but Simmons postures up. Warner prevents Simmons from moving into mount. Simmons controls the position.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Warner struggling a bit here. The referee tells the fighters to keep busy.
The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out! Simmons moves into the clinch. Jeff Warner has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here! Gregory Simmons is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight. Simmons breaks from the clinch.
And that's the end of the fight! Gregory Simmons comfortably won the final round on my scorecard. Well Simmons has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
