Coming up we have a welterweight Tycoon World Grappling Championship rules bout between Russell Paulman (ranked 4821 p4p, 0 weight class) and Timur Umarov (ranked 1261 p4p, 0 weight class). Paulman's entrance music is War is my Love . A fine choice. Umarov has chosen 2Pac - When We Ride On Our Enemies as his entrance music. There are an array of beautiful celebrities at ringside tonight! I wonder if any of them paid for their tickets.
This TWGC bout is 1 fifteen minute round in the welterweight division. Introducing today's competitors. In the red corner, competing out of St Petersburg, with a TWGC record of 12 wins and 4 losses; Russell Paulman! And in the blue corner, fighting out of Montreal, with a TWGC record of 0 wins and 0 losses; Timur Umarov! The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Elvis Blanc.
The fighters bow as they face eachother in the middle of the mat and we are under way. Paulman tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Umarov defends well and Paulman ends up having to push Umarov into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Paulman looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. Paulman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Umarov pinned against the cage. Umarov gets the underhooks and manages to circle away. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Russell Paulman. That's going to take a lot out of him. Paulman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Umarov but Umarov pushes him off and we're back to square one. Umarov wants to counter the offense by Paulman and move into the clinch position. Paulman misses with a takedown attempt - Umarov sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Umarov shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Paulman manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage. Paulman not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

Umarov trying to control but Paulman is working from the bottom. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Paulman keeping full guard, as Umarov tries to pass. Paulman wants to sweep but no luck. Umarov pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Paulman is keeping the position for now. Paulman bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Umarov's guard. That's three minutes gone in the round. Paulman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Umarov swivels though and keeps the full guard. Paulman passes into half guard. That's four minutes gone in the round. Paulman controlling from mount. Paulman has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent. Umarov felt the need to train up his defensive grappling in the buildup to the fight. Presumably he was expecting to be in a difficult position like this, so let's see if he can get out of it.
That's five minutes gone in the round. Umarov slips a leg in and gets back to half guard. Paulman content to control rather than advance. Paulman tries to pass to full mount but Umarov defends it. Umarov is looking to control Paulman's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Umarov avoid being mounted? Paulman looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
That's six minutes gone in the round. Paulman is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Umarov! Score +3 for passing guard: Paulman (8) vs (2) Umarov Paulman controlling from the full mount.
That's seven minutes gone in the round. Umarov tries to hold on but Paulman postures up. Paulman controlling from mount. Paulman's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Paulman trying to control but he's not successful this time. That's nine minutes gone in the round. Paulman can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Umarov is looking to escape. Umarov is desperately trying to improve his position but Paulman has a good base and remains in mount. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Paulman sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment. This is a sustained period of stalling by Paulman.
That's ten minutes gone in the round. Umarov tries to get back to half guard but can't. Paulman controlling the position easily from mount. Further stalling from Paulman.
That's eleven minutes gone in the round. Umarov wants to hold on but Paulman pushes him away. Paulman controlling from mount. Paulman seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Umarov for as long as he can get away with. Umarov tries to lock up and control but Paulman gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away. Paulman controlling his opponent.
That's twelve minutes gone in the round. Paulman continues to hold on tight.
That's thirteen minutes gone in the round. If it seems like I'm not saying a lot, it's just because Paulman is stinking the place up with his stalling. Paulman wants to control but Umarov has made it back to half guard. Nice work. Paulman is pressing down on Umarov's thigh, looking to free his foot. Umarov is holding on for now. Umarov is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though. Umarov is holding on to half guard well. Paulman is just sitting in half guard, waiting for something to happen. Umarov is trying to maintain the position but Paulman is very close to passing his half guard.
That's fourteen minutes gone in the round. Still in half guard, Paulman seems content to control. Umarov wants to get back to full guard. Paulman content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that's the end of the fight! Paulman takes the fight on points by 8 to 2. Russell Paulman seemed lost for words in his post fight interview but he remembered to thank his fans and directed everyone to his website. |
