PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Martin Sedlacek (ranked 2878 p4p, 128 weight class) and Lyodo Machida (ranked 3788 p4p, 159 weight class). Both fighters really staring each other down here, as Lyodo Machida enters the cage!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Helsinki, Martin Sedlacek!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Lyodo Machida!
The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Daniel Bishop and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sedlacek throws a right and a left that Machida avoids nicely.
Sedlacek looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Machida is fending him off so far but Sedlacek persists. Nope, Machida circles away and we're back to standing.

Machida changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Sedlacek looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

Sedlacek is trying to escape the position but Machida is controlling the position.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Machida won't let Sedlacek get back to his feet... He wants to keep the fight where it is for now.

Machida is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.

Sedlacek is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Sedlacek is looking to get back to his feet - it's going to be hard from this position.

Lyodo Machida dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Machida has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Machida moves out of range of the body kick.
Machida has been working on his striking defense in training and it's paying off as Sedlacek is landing a low percentage of strikes.

Wow, both these guys are really going for it!

Machida gets a clinch.
Machida throws a punch but it's blocked by Sedlacek.
A frustrated look appears on Sedlacek's face as he tries to break the clinch.

Machida pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Sedlacek looks to be in better condition than last time we saw him fight. Obviously he's been working hard on his cardio.
Machida avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Sedlacek uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Machida.

Sedlacek shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Machida napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Sedlacek misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Sedlacek throws a strike but Machida avoids it easily and moves to full guard.

Machida wants to sweep but no luck.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.

Sedlacek drops down for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Machida moves into the clinch.
A head punch on the inside from Machida fails to land.
Sedlacek tries to land a knee to the head but misses.
Machida prevents a takedown attempt there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Martin Sedlacek. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Machida throws a blind hook that connects with the side of Sedlaceks head.

Machida not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Sedlacek is looking for a guillotine. You can't force these things though and Machida defends well.

Sedlacek scrambles and gets back to his feet.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd thankful this round is nearly over.

Lyodo Machida showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action! This is the final round!

Sedlacek scrambles, trying to get to his feet, but Machida manages to mount him!

The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Machida cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Machida cracks Sedlacek with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

Let's hope that Machida has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Machida is continuing to stall.
Sedlacek tries to hold on but Machida pushes him away.

Machida looking to finish Sedlacek with some ground and pound. This is bad for Sedlacek!
Martin Sedlacek has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Machida takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.

Sedlacek bucks up and throws Machida to the side - he's got back to his feet. Great escape!
Sedlacek shoots in looking for a takedown. Machida tries to sprawl out of it but Sedlacek keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Machida manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Machida has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

Lyodo Machida comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Machida has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
