PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Michael Sanna (ranked 587 p4p, 98 weight class) and Todd Rumper (ranked 2269 p4p, 337 weight class). Todd Rumper told me before the fight that he's been watching a lot of DVDs so let's see if that helps him in this one! I can't wait to find out!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Michael Sanna!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Todd Rumper!
The judges for this bout are Anni Minnemäki, Roosa Järviläinen and Matti Vanhoillinen.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sanna buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Rumper connects with a good right hand that stumbles Sanna. Sanna circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
An inside leg kick lands from Sanna.
Sanna lands with a kick to the temple. Rumper shrugs as if to say "is that all you've got?"


It looks like Todd Rumper has been cut.
Rumper takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Sanna, right into the meat.
Rumper defending well as Sanna loads up on a big left hand.
Sanna lands a jab to the head.
Sanna takes a punch right to his stomach. That took the wind out of him momentarily.
Sanna is breathing heavily.
Rumper clobbers Sanna with an overhand right that has the crowd gasping. That made a horrendous noise.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Rumper thows a left - swing and a miss!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from Sanna, right into the meat.

Rumper lands a big shot that drops Sanna! Can he finish him?


It looks like Michael Sanna has been cut.
Rumper passes Sanna's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Sanna tries to kick Rumper off but Rumper keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.

Rumper is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Sanna has managed to free his arm - good work.
Rumper looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Rumper wants to free his trapped foot but Sanna is holding on for dear life with his legs.
Rumper is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Rumper drops back looking for a leg! Sanna is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Sanna manages to kick Rumper off! Rumper jumps back into Sanna's guard.
Rumper is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Rumper is continuing to stall.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Rumper pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Sanna is keeping the position for now.
Sanna has control of Rumper's left arm, preventing Rumper from doing any damage.
Rumper trying to control but Sanna is working from the bottom.
Sanna keeping full guard, as Rumper tries to pass.
Sanna looking for a sweep. Not yet Sanna, not yet.

Rumper wants to control from the top but Sanna keeps moving.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Rumper misses with the combination.
Rumper avoids the head kick by Sanna.
Sanna buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Rumper on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Sanna slips a jab from Rumper.
Sanna scores with a jab to the jaw of his opponent.
Rumper throws a front kick aimed at Sanna's knee but Sanna avoids it well.
Sanna keeps Rumper at a distance using the push kick.
Sanna throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Sanna lands with a slapping head kick.
Rumper misses with a two punch combination.
Sanna lands a head kick!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Sanna lands a nice looking body shot.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Sanna works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Rumper fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Sanna checks it well.
Sanna slips a jab from Rumper.
Rumper misses with a hook. Sanna ducked under it nicely.
Good shot there by Sanna.
Rumper throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sanna.
No joy there for Sanna, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Sanna blocks a jab.
Sanna scores with a head kick.
Sanna tries to check a leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Sanna misses with a wild body shot.
Sanna looks to have improved his striking defense since last time we saw him fight.
Rumper throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Sanna.
Sanna is looking to counter punch.
Sanna swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Rumper throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Good shot there by Rumper.
Rumper misses with a leg kick
and Sanna counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Michael Sanna will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Sanna's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Rumper throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

We are yet to see a takedown attempt from Rumper in the fight. On paper you would think he is the more dominant ground fighter so let's see if these unusual tactics pay off.
Sanna dodges the punch combination from Rumper.
Rumper misses with a jab, cross combination.
Sanna throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Rumper fakes high and swings low for a body shot but Sanna manages to avoid it.
Sanna lands a glancing blow to the side of Rumper's head.
Sanna uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Rumper.
Sanna connects with a solid leg kick.
Sanna lands a jab to Rumper's midsection.
Wow, both these guys are really going for it!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Rumper throws a series of punches but Sanna avoids them all with ease.
Sanna scores with a hook to the body. Rumper takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Sanna misses the shot to the body.
Rumper takes a thudding leg kick, right into the meat of the thigh.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Good leg kick by Sanna there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Sanna lands a nice looking body shot.

Nice body punch from Sanna.
Rumper fails to land with a series of punches.
Rumper is breathing heavily.
Rumper misses with a wild combination.
Sanna throws a head kick that half lands.
Rumper scores with the left hand. Sanna knows he should have avoided that one.
A head kick misses from Sanna.
Rumper keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.
Rumper connects with a looping left hand that seems like it dazed Sanna momentarily.


Sanna is rocked!
Sanna gets tagged by a hook that puts him to sleep! Rumper points and yells something to his unconcious foe before strutting off. Sanna wakes up just in time to hear Rumper thank his coaches in the post fight interview.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:48 of round 2, we have a winner by way of KO (Punch). Todd Rumper!
