Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Jesse Pilkington! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Ben Mitchell! The judges for this bout are Colin Fotheringham, Chris Edwards and James Glass.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Mitchell scores with a nice strike. Pilkington shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Mitchell defends it nicely. Mitchell is clearly looking to counter with head kicks. Mitchell has taken the fight to the clinch.
Mitchell escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Pilkington shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Mitchell as he avoids it easily. Pilkington looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jesse Pilkington. That's going to take a lot out of him. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Mitchell scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Pilkington doesn't seem bothered though. Mitchell scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice. Pilkington is breathing heavily. Mitchell working away diligently from side control. Landing strikes effectively there - that will score him some points on the judges scorecards.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Mitchell stands up and we're back to a striking position.
That's one minute gone in the round. Pilkington throws a lazy head kick and Mitchell counters by clinching up. Mitchell jumps guard and drags Pilkington to the mat. He's obviously going to be looking for submissions off his back. Mitchell is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Pilkington is controlling him. Mitchell looking to hit a scissor sweep but Pilkington is one step ahead there. Mitchell is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Pilkington has his hands clasped together but Mitchell extends and breaks Pilkington's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Mitchell.
