3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ramon Cassel! The judges for this bout are Alan Glass, Frank Dennis and Wesley Smith.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Maeda closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Cassel's guard. Maeda working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage. Maeda working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound. Maeda trying to control the position from guard on top but Cassel is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can. Cassel preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage. Cassel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maeda gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Maeda postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect. Maeda in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time. Maeda trying to control but Cassel is working from the bottom. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Cassel escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Maeda gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance. Cassel looks winded! Maeda content to stall in guard here.
That's one minute gone in the round. Maeda throwing strikes from guard but Cassel blocks nicely. Maeda drops back looking for a leg! Cassel is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and Cassel manages to kick Maeda off! Maeda jumps back into Cassel's guard. Maeda drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Cassel manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Maeda has Cassel in his guard.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily. Maeda escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Cassel gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Maeda is working actively from the bottom, looking for submissions. He's escaped his hips to the side and he's going for an armbar! Cassel has his hands clasped together but Maeda extends and breaks Cassel's desperate grasp, forcing a tap out due to armbar! Nice BJJ displayed there by Maeda.
