Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
6 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Konosuke Kanayama! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Clay Guida! The judges for this bout are , Timothy Bukovac and .
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Guida scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Kanayama keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound. Guida prevents Kanayama from improving his position. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Guida is keen to just control but Kanayama is a slippery customer. Guida wants to free his trapped foot but Kanayama is holding on for dear life with his legs. Kanayama is trying to stand.
Kanayama is staying active underneath Guida, who seems content to just control the action from this position. Guida throwing shots but Kanayama is blocking nicely.
That's one minute gone in the round.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Guida drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Kanayama is trying to get back to his feet. Guida wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kanayama keeps working. Kanayama gets one leg under and gets the fight to half guard. Kanayama is refusing to be controlled, as Guida sits in half guard. Guida really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Kanayama. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Guida throwing shots but they're hitting the canvas more than the man. Kanayama is trying to stand.
Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up. Guida moves out of range as Kanayama strikes. Kanayama changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Guida tries to avoid it but Kanayama manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Guida to the ground. Guida escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. Kanayama is breathing heavily. Kanayama with a poor takedown and Guida counters with a single leg into guard. Kanayama didn't expect that. Guida trying to control but Kanayama is working from the bottom. Guida pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Kanayama is keeping the position for now.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Guida wants to control from the top but Kanayama keeps moving. Guida might have to switch it up a bit here because his efforts to control Kanayama kaven't been going to plan, at least at the current moment in time.
That's four minutes gone in the round. A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd. Guida is looking to stand up but Kanayama won't let him. Kanayama can't keep his opponent in guard - Guida advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount. Guida wants to lay and pray for a moment but Kanayama keeps working.
Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up. Guida misses with a hook. Kanayama ducked under it nicely. Kanayama bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Clay Guida dominated that round. The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!
Guida throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Nice takedown defense from Guida. No joy for Kanayama on that attempt. Guida pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Guida closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard. Guida throws a strike but Kanayama manages to get a kimura sweep and he's found himself on top with the kimura half locked in! This would be a real turnaround! He's torquing it... Will Guida tap??? YES! He's tapped! This one is all over!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 0:36 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Konosuke Kanayama!
