PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Bill Kelly (ranked 4288 p4p, 423 weight class) and Gary RodneyField (ranked 8042 p4p, 556 weight class). Gary RodneyField will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Bill Kelly!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Gary RodneyField!
The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
RodneyField tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Kelly swivels and escapes.
Kelly misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
RodneyField tries a counter takedown but it's more of a dummy move, and he uses it to push himself away.
RodneyField looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Kelly is fending him off so far but RodneyField persists. Nope, Kelly circles away and we're back to standing.

Kelly shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Kelly looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Kelly is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.
Kelly is stalling in the full guard.
Kelly trying to control but RodneyField is working from the bottom.
Kelly has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Kelly tries to free his leg and advance position but RodneyField is retaining full guard.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.
Kelly wants to control from the top but RodneyField keeps moving.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Kelly slaps away a takedown attempt from RodneyField, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Bill Kelly has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gary RodneyField.

Kelly throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. RodneyField was covering up waiting for the punch and Kelly finishes the takedown easily into guard.

RodneyField is looking for a triangle but Kelly pushes his legs off easily.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
RodneyField keeping moving, preventing Kelly from controlling successfully.

Kelly stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. RodneyField swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Kelly postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

RodneyField throws his legs up looking to secure a triangle. Oh, that looks pretty tight, I gotta say! Kelly escapes and throws RodneyField's legs to the side, diving into side control!
Kelly controls the position.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.

Kelly is trying to get an arm triangle but RodneyField is defending well.
The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Kelly tries to move into full mount but can't pass RodneyField's legs.
Kelly trying to control the action but RodneyField is working from the bottom.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
You can see the frustration on RodneyField's face as Kelly controls the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Kelly closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming RodneyField to the mat! RodneyField manages to get full guard.

RodneyField stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and RodneyField wants it to stay on the feet.

Kelly tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but RodneyField defends well and Kelly ends up having to push RodneyField into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch.

Kelly seems to be working for a kimura but RodneyField defends the submission attempt.

Kelly seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down RodneyField for as long as he can get away with.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Kelly tries to advance to mount but RodneyField instead regains half guard.

RodneyField is staying active underneath Kelly, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Kelly performing his best blanket impression for a moment.
Kelly throws a strike but RodneyField avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Kelly controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Kelly has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

RodneyField looks for a takedown but Kelly sprawls well.
RodneyField stuffs the takedown attempt from Kelly. Kelly gets slowly back to his feet.
Kelly displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from RodneyField.
RodneyField takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
RodneyField shoots in but no luck this time.

Kelly manages to get an easy takedown there - catching RodneyField on his heels. He'll look to pass RodneyField's guard now, I'm sure.
Gary RodneyField has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Kelly, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
