Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Thomas Balzli! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Abraham Willson! The judges for this bout are Steve Smith, Yves DeLean and Dillan Fox.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Balzli throws a lazy right hand but Willson sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily. Willson dives in and grabs Balzli's left leg, looking for a takedown. Balzli pushes down on Willson's head and hops out. Balzli looking to score a takedown here. Willson is defending well but Balzli drives through and ends up in Willson's guard. Willson should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Willson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Willson working for a triangle but Balzli defends it easily.
Willson tries to land a sweep but no joy. The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work. Balzli is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long. Willson looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Balzli slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Willson is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle. Willson throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.
That's one minute gone in the round. Balzli controls from within his opponent's guard. Willson has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Balzli has passed into side control.
Willson is positioning himself to get back to half guard. Balzli knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Willson on the ground. Balzli controlling the position from side mount. Willson tries to buck Balzli off but Balzli is having none of it. Balzli is staying tight to Willson's torso, preventing him from escaping. Balzli seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Willson for as long as he can get away with. Willson is looking to regain half guard here but Balzli keeps moving and retains side control.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Balzli lands a knee to the body and a forearm to the face. Willson is looking for a sweep. Willson is persisting with the attempt to improve his position. Willson keeps trying to improve his position. Balzli controlling the position. Willson is trying to improve his position. Willson seems a little lost for a moment, as Balzli dominates the positioning. Balzli landing with strikes to the head and body from side control. Willson tries to improve position but can't. Willson is letting Balzli control him for a moment. Willson is sneaking out the side here. He's bucked Balzli off and has taken his back! Balzli defending nicely against the rear naked choke attempt.
