PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Den Mark (ranked 5419 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alvar Delm (ranked 5778 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Den Mark!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Alvar Delm!
The judges for this bout are Andrew Berry, Richard Clark and James Atkins.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mark takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.
Mark shoots and misses
and Delm counters with a series of strikes. Mark will be more careful next time no doubt.
Mark takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
Mark on the wrong end of an overhand right that came out of nowhere.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

Delm closes the distance and pushes Mark back into the cage.
Delm lands with a short punch from the clinch.
Delm lands an uppercut.
A left hand lands to the body for Delm.
Delm holding his opponent close, against the cage.
Delm stalling against the cage.
Delm receives a warning from the referee for stalling.
Mark tries for a takedown but Delm manages to get underhooks.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Delm tries a body shot but Mark blocks it.

Mark manages to pull guard. Let's see whether he can land a sub off his back.
Mark is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Delm content to stall in guard here.
Mark is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Mark lands a beautiful sweep and he's now moved into his opponent's guard.

Mark works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Mark is taking a breather. Delm says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Delm is looking to improve his position.
Mark content to sit in half guard and control for a moment.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Delm trying to hold on to Mark's head to control him but Mark postures up.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Delm can do anything to dispel that myth.
Mark with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Delm wants to get back to full guard.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.
Delm stuns Mark with a nice body shot, before stepping back out of range.
Delm with a body punch. A glancing blow.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Delm misses with the combination.
Mark drops down looking for a counter takedown but Delm sprawls and moves away.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Alvar Delm dominated that round.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!



Mark throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Delm was covering up waiting for the punch and Mark finishes the takedown easily into guard.

Mark controls from within his opponent's guard.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Delm is pulling down on Mark's head to control his posture.

Mark slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Delm working a defensive guard but Mark passes into half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Mark keeping composed on the top, looking to control the action.
Delm keeping control of the leg, stopping his opponent passing to mount.
Mark stalling.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Mark needs to keep his hands up - Delm had a free shot at his head there.
Delm lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Delm scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.

Delm gets caught flat footed, as Mark shoots in with a quick takedown into guard.
Delm is looking to stand back up but Mark counters by passing into half guard. Oops... bit sloppy there by Delm.

That's three minutes gone in the round.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Mark has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.
Mark is thwarting Delm's attempts to control the position.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!

The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Den Mark will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Delm defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Mark.
Delm has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Delm throws a right and a left that both miss.
Mark takes one to the chin there.
Delm scores with a decent looking hook.
Danga de danga de dang - Delm scores with a four punch combination!
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Mark has a takedown stuffed.
Delm scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Mark doesn't seem bothered though.

Mark shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Delm as he avoids it easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Den Mark. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Delm scores with a straight right hand, right through his opponent's guard.

Delm clinches with his opponent.
Delm lands a right hand that snaps the head of Mark backwards.
Delm lands punches inside but they're not really causing much damage.
Delm gets underhooks to prevent Mark's takedown attempt.

Delm just leaning against Mark, taking a breather.

Mark has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Delm avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.
Delm lands a shot to the body.
Still in the clinch, Delm scores with a nice short uppercut.
Delm prevents a takedown attempt there.
Nice body punch from Delm - that landed with a thud.
Delm effectively controlling the action here.
Delm lands with a right to the head.

Mark jumps into guard, dragging Delm to the mat.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Delm sitting in guard, not really doing much.
Delm preventing the sweep.

Delm controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Delm wants to pass the guard but Mark is keeping the position.
Delm stopping the sweep attempt from Mark.

Mark is actively looking for submissions from his back. He's worked himself a little space on the bottom and seems to be going for a triangle. No, he's switched into an armbar! That was slick! Delm rolls with it to try and escape but Mark cranks on the arm and Delm is forced to tap out! This one is aaaaaaaaall over!
