Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between James Howlett (ranked 5427 p4p, 0 weight class) and Derrick Ranger (ranked 3758 p4p, 0 weight class). Both fighters will be looking to make this an exciting fight for the fans, I'm sure!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, James Howlett!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Derrick Ranger!
The judges for this bout are Yves DeLean, William Peck and Ian Loll.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ranger misses with a series of wild punches.
Howlett misses with a body punch

and Ranger counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
Ranger working from the guard for now, landing some ground and pound.
Howlett not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Ranger is in close to Howlett's body, working some short punches and elbows.
Howlett controls Ranger momentarily but Ranger frees himself.

Howlett looking for a guillotine here but Ranger defends easily.
Ranger stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Howlett swivels though and keeps the full guard.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Ranger postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.
Howlett can't keep his opponent in guard - Ranger advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Howlett has hold of Ranger's hands but Ranger slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Ranger is trying to work for a kimura but Howlett is defending well.

Ranger is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Howlett has managed to free his arm - good work.

Ranger is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Howlett sees it coming and defends easily.

Ranger is working for a submission of some sort.
Ranger is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.

Ranger is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Howlett is just riding it out for now. Ranger eventually gives up the hold.
Howlett is trying to get back to full guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Ranger trying to mount his opponent but Howlett defends it.
Ranger looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Howlett with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

Ranger seems to be working for a kimura but Howlett defends the submission attempt.
Ranger seems to be taking a bit of a break to think of his next move. He lands a short punch in the meantime.
Ranger has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Ranger is scoring with some nice ground and pound from the dominant position.


Howlett is rocked!
Ranger working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.
Oh Howlett is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!

That's three minutes gone in the round.

Ranger looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Howlett seems to have got his legs back now.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Ranger works his foot free and advances to mount.

Ranger has his opponent pinned against the cage, landing some nasty ground and pound that is really making a bit of a mess out of Howlett's face.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Oooooh, big shot lands for Ranger! Howlett is hurt baaadly! Ranger is firing away with more strikes - Howlett is covering up... the ref is warning him to do something. He's just covering up though still and the ref has to step in to end the fight! This one is all over!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Derrick Ranger!
