PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Ambon Suave (ranked 5645 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ariel Schroder (ranked 5525 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ambon Suave!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Ariel Schroder!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Frank Dennis and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Suave gets a takedown into half guard.
Schroder is controlling Suave's trapped leg to prevent Suave from advancing to side control.
Schroder is not content to let Suave control the position.
Suave really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Schroder works his way to full guard. Good work.
Schroder keeping moving, preventing Suave from controlling successfully.
Schroder is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.

The referee has decided to stand the fighters back up, so we'll restart on the feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Schroder enables Suave to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Schroder manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Schroder looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Schroder is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Schroder bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Suave's guard.

Schroder engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.
Schroder postures up in Suave's guard and throws a big left but Suave blocks it.
Schroder controls the pace of the fight for a moment.
Schroder postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Suave is trying to control the position but Schroder postures up.
Schroder is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Schroder's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

The referee has stepped in and called for a break in the action. We'll restart on the feet.

Schroder shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Suave's guard.
Schroder in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Suave has a butterfly guard looking to sweep but Schroder has passed into side control.
Schroder content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
More stalling from Schroder.
Suave tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Schroder wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
Suave is letting Schroder control him for a moment.
Schroder with more of the same as he continues to hold on.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ariel Schroder dominated that round.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.



Schroder looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Schroder not doing much here.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Schroder is trying to work for a kimura but Suave is defending well.

Schroder seems to be working for a kimura but Suave defends the submission attempt.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Schroder slows the pace down in half guard.
Suave is trying to control but Schroder passes into side control!
Schroder tries to move to mount but Suave blocks the move with his legs.
Ariel Schroder has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
You can see the frustration on Suave's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
Suave is trying to escape the position but Schroder is controlling the position.
Suave is looking for a sweep.
Suave prevents Schroder from improving position.
Schroder controlling the position.
Schroder working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Schroder cracks Suave with a big elbow.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Suave struggling a bit here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schroder landing a few strikes.
Suave is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Schroder misses with the ground and pound.

The ref stands the fighters back up due to a lack of activity.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
A swing and a miss from Schroder.

Schroder shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Suave is trying to defend but Schroder finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Suave tries to roll over but Schroder keeps him under control.
Schroder stalling.
Boooooooooooooooooooo!!! God, this has been a terrible round. Come on you two, sort yourselves out!
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ariel Schroder showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action! The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!



Schroder gets caught napping as Suave dives in and scores a takedown. Schroder manages to retain guard.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Schroder is on top in guard.

Suave utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Schroder is stalling in the full guard.
Suave knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Schroder on the ground.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Let's hope that Schroder has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.
Suave wants to stand and escape but Schroder is having none of it.
Schroder lands a couple of digs.
Schroder sitting in guard here, content to control.
Schroder has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
Suave avoiding any damage from the ground and pound.
The referee looks like he's ready to step in and stand the fighters back up.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Schroder pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Suave is keeping the position for now.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.

Suave closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Suave lands in his opponent's guard.
Schroder manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Suave manages to get himself to full guard.

Schroder advances to half guard.

Schroder has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Suave defend it? Schroder steps over the head and cranks it - Suave is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Schroder!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:54 of round 3, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Ariel Schroder!
