PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Aldo Crespo (ranked 1327 p4p, 134 weight class) and Keyser Soze (ranked 20014 p4p, 474 weight class). Crespo comes to the cage accompanied by Toxic Waltz. Soze comes into a darkened arena with his song building. We Back kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 10 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Aldo Crespo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 10 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Keyser Soze!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Paulo Santos and Mauricio Rocha.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Soze tries to score with an inside leg kick but telegraphs it and Crespo is able to avoid easily.
Horrible takedown attempt by Crespo or perhaps it was just good defense by Soze, which made it look bad.
Soze drops his hands momentarily and Crespo takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.

Crespo throws an ugly left hook that misses
and Soze finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.

Crespo appears to be looking for a counter takedown.
Soze goes for a spinning back kick but it misses.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Soze throws a sloppy head kick and Crespo moves out of range easily.

Crespo misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Soze misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Crespo drops down looking for a counter takedown but Soze sprawls and moves away.
Soze is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.

Crespo manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Soze on his heels. He'll look to pass Soze's guard now, I'm sure.

The fighters are working up against the cage. Soze manages to wriggle his way back to his feet, so the fighters are now clinched against the cage.

Soze can't find room to land a body shot as Crespo controls the action.

Soze tries to work over Crespo's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.

Crespo changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Soze looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Crespo tries to score with some ground and pound. Soze controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.
Crespo creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Crespo throws a strike aimed at the side of Soze's head but Soze avoids it well.
Crespo creates some space and throws a big elbow, but Soze sees it coming and moves his head just enough to avoid the strike.

Crespo tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Crespo has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Soze pushes Crespo away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Crespo gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
We've been hearing good reports from Crespo's training camp. Apparently he has been rolling around with some good quality BJJ practitioners and has been sharpening his skills. Let's see if that has an impact on the fight today.
Crespo has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Soze bucks up and tries to throw Crespo off but instead Crespo has got his back!
Soze really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Crespo. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Soze is trying to get back to his feet but Crespo has full control of the position and if anything, Soze has just worked his way into a worse spot.

Crespo is looking for a rear naked choke here but Soze reverses the position brilliantly into Crespo's guard!

Soze tries to land a front kick but Crespo steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Crespo darts in looking for a takedown but Soze gets double underhooks and turns Crespo into the cage.

Soze utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Soze is looking to stand up but Crespo isn't so interested in that idea.

Crespo lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Crespo landing with the ground and pound.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Soze keeping moving, preventing Crespo from controlling successfully.

Soze is scooting his butt against the cage and has managed to get back to his feet. Crespo presses him back against the cage, presumably looking to take the fight back to the mat.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Soze struggles to land a body shot inside as Crespo controls his hands.

Soze manages to break the clinch.
Crespo is really head hunting here, hardly looking to strike to the body at all.

Crespo throws a hook but Soze blocks it.
Crespo moves out of range as Soze throws a body kick.
Crespo tries to score a power double leg takedown but Soze sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Crespo somewhat.

Crespo has managed to slip his arm under Soze's chin. This could be all over... yep, Soze is tapping out! Submission win for Crespo.

During a confident post fight interview, Aldo Crespo thanked all his fans. He seemed very genuine when describing how motivated his fans keep him.
