PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dick Avery (ranked 24836 p4p, 0 weight class) and Chris Ravenna (ranked 6714 p4p, 0 weight class). Ravenna comes into a darkened arena with his song building. Arise by Wolfgang kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! Chris Ravenna will no doubt be looking to use his reach advantage to good effect.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of New York, Chris Ravenna!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, John Kavanagh and Franklyn Lucas.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Ravenna clinches up with Avery and pushes him back against the cage.

Avery ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Avery no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.
Ravenna works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Avery wants to improve his position but Ravenna is controlling well.
Ravenna thows a huge punch but Avery dodges it nicely.

Ravenna stands up out of the half guard.
Avery wants to clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Avery tries to clinch up but Ravenna circles away and keeps his distance.

Avery jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Ravenna walks away with a smile on his face. Avery gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Ravenna shoots in from a long way out. He's driving through with the takedown attempt and he eventually gets it, landing in Avery's guard.

Ravenna lands a head kick. Avery smiles back at him and beckons him forward.


It looks like Dick Avery has been cut.
Avery tries to clinch but fails miserably
and Ravenna counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Ravenna closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Avery misses with a punch on the inside.

Ravenna has double underhooks and is working for a body lock takedown. He's got it. The fighters land in half guard but Avery regains guard immediately.
Ravenna must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

and Ravenna counters with a three punch combo that has Avery backing up. Avery nods at Ravenna to acknowledge the strikes.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ravenna manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Avery on his heels. He'll look to pass Avery's guard now, I'm sure.

Ravenna is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Avery can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.

Ravenna takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Well Ravenna has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
