Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between David McCarthy (ranked 1577 p4p, 186 weight class) and Violencia Rivas (ranked 1846 p4p, 223 weight class). McCarthy's entrance music is Chamillionaire - Ridin' ft. Krayzie Bone. A fine choice. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 32 - 19 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, David McCarthy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Violencia Rivas!
The judges for this bout are Franklyn Lucas, Russell Pearce and Alyssa Summers.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rivas jabs McCarthy to the body, keeping him at a distance.
McCarthy shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Rivas looked like he wanted to counter with a punch but didn't throw it.
McCarthy misses with a body kick.
We've been hearing reports that McCarthy has been drilling takedowns in recent sessions so let's see if that has an impact on the result of this fight.
Rivas fakes a head shot and lands one to the body.
McCarthy shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Rivas pinned against the cage. Rivas gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
McCarthy on the wrong end of a decent looking cross there.
McCarthy is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

McCarthy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
McCarthy sends his fist crashing into the mat - the crowd let out a collective ooooooh. Let's hope he's not broken it!
Rivas tries to get back to half guard but can't.

McCarthy moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Rivas has worked his arm free - good work by Rivas!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

McCarthy tries to advance to mount but Rivas instead regains half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

McCarthy is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Rivas really doesn't want to stay on the ground with McCarthy. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rivas manages to create a bit of space in order to work his way back to his feet. McCarthy keeps hold of his opponent and drives him back against the cage.
McCarthy jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Rivas walks away with a smile on his face. McCarthy gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Rivas fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with McCarthy, pushing him back against the cage.
Rivas lands a hook to the side of the head.
Rivas tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.
McCarthy can't break the clinch.

McCarthy tries to pass the half guard into mount. Rivas knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
This has been an exciting period of action!

McCarthy shoots in looking for a takedown but Rivas manages to keep the fight standing, pushing McCarthy's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well Rivas has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
