Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Lyman Berg (ranked 8024 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Frank (ranked 6133 p4p, 0 weight class). Nick Frank will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division. Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner. With a record of
0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Lyman Berg! And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner. With a record of
1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Nick Frank! The judges for this bout are Jack Bonds, Frank Antenori and Timothy Bukovac.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Frank slips under a jab from Berg. Berg with a lazy takedown attempt and Frank counters with a left to the body. Frank misses with a head kick.
Horrible takedown attempt by Frank or perhaps it was just good defense by Berg, which made it look bad. Berg seem to be loading up, looking for a big counter. Berg shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Frank defends it nicely. Frank fails with the takedown. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Frank jabs at Berg's body. Frank closes the distance and clinches.
That's one minute gone in the round. Berg tries to work over Frank's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target. Frank breaks the clinch.
Frank scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent. Frank moves into the clinch successfully.
Berg fails to pull guard.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lyman Berg. That's going to take a lot out of him. Frank has dropped down and is looking to force the takedown but it's defended by Berg after a bit of a struggle. Berg really is built like a bowling ball. I wonder if he'd roll if you pushed him down a hill... Frank breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Frank tries to drive through with a takedown attempt but Berg defends well and Frank ends up having to push Berg into the cage where they will battle it out in the clinch. Berg shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it. A telegraphed takedown attempt from Frank is defended easily by Berg. Frank connects nicely with a jab. Noted by the judges no doubt.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Frank fails to land the takedown. Berg tries for a takedown but Frank circles away easily enabling Frank to counter with a crisp jab. Frank shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Berg sprawls well. Berg wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Frank gets slowly back to his feet. Frank looks winded! Berg shoots for a double leg takedown but Frank sprawls well. He's pushed Berg's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily. Berg blocks the body kick.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Frank tries for a takedown but Berg circles away easily and Berg connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle. Frank defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Berg. No luck with that takedown attempt from Berg. Berg walks into a jab. Berg defends well against a solid takedown attempt from Frank. Berg throws a head kick that misses and Frank counters with a head kick. That will keep Berg thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks! Frank wants to clinch.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Excellent takedown into side control there by Berg. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing. Berg stands up and we're back to a striking position. Berg misses with a takedown attempt - Frank sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff! Berg shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Berg showed some decent athleticism there. Frank kicks Berg off and gets back to his feet. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

No luck with that takedown attempt from Berg. Berg tries to clinch but is not successful on this occasion. Frank throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle. Berg swung with a counter right hand that didn't connect. Nick Frank seems to be getting the better of the standup. Frank throws a sloppy head kick and Berg moves out of range easily. Frank instigates a clinch. Berg tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Frank just stands there and leans against the cage. Frank manages to break the clinch.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Frank shoots in but no luck this time. Berg quickly followed up with a counter body kick but doesn't connect. Frank with a lazy takedown attempt and Berg counters with a quick right hand to the jaw. Frank is breathing heavily. Berg misses with an attempted mid kick.
Berg takes a hook to the side of the head. I wonder if that's got his ears ringing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Berg leaves Frank with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt. Lyman Berg has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Nick Frank. Frank misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out. Berg closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth. Frank tries to bench press Berg off him but Berg keeps the position. Berg thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead. Berg working away.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Berg stands up. Berg shoots in and drives through. Frank sprawls well. Frank has been the more effective fighter overall so far. Berg tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Frank swivels and escapes. Berg misses with a takedown attempt - Frank sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses. Berg really is a fat lump. Frank tries to work over Berg's front leg with a kick but Berg checks it. Frank keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl. Frank lands a head shot. Nick Frank is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Berg fails with a takedown attempt. Frank misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Frank throws a nice outside leg kick. Berg shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Frank but Frank pushes him off and we're back to square one. Berg has his takedown stuffed and Frank counters with a stiff right hand. Frank drives through and clinches with Berg against the cage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Frank breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Frank does a little shimmy and throws a leg kick. The leg kick missed by a considerable margin though, making him look a little bit silly for doing the shimmy. Frank lands a front kick. A lazy body kick from Berg and Frank counters with a series of strikes. Berg will be more careful next time no doubt. Frank uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Berg. Frank fails with a takedown attempt. Berg gets in close and instigates a clinch. And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.
Nick Frank showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards. Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin! Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!
Berg doesn't succeed with the takedown and Frank counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work. Berg throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Frank counters with a lovely shot to the body. Berg avoids the head kick by Frank.
Frank throws a quick inside leg kick. Frank is using his reach advantage to land shots from outside his opponent's range. Frank shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Berg as he jumps to the side. Frank changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Berg tries to avoid it but Frank manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Berg to the ground. Berg escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet. We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up. Berg is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Frank's half guard. Frank is trying to control but Berg manages to pass to mount!
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
That's one minute gone in the round. Berg dominating with strikes here. Berg takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though. Berg is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Frank can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Frank wants to control but Berg is having none of it. Berg working Frank over with strikes here. Berg stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
That's two minutes gone in the round. Frank moves out of range of the body kick from Berg.
Frank steps in looking to clinch after the strikes miss from Berg. Berg changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Frank looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better. Berg decides to stand up, so the ref orders Frank to his feet. Frank fakes with the hands and throws a leg kick but Berg is out of range. Berg dives in for a single leg takedown but Frank sprawls and the fighters end up clinched against the cage. Frank stuffs the takedown. That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Lyman Berg. That's going to take a lot out of him. Frank fails with a takedown attempt. Nick Frank seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout. Berg throws a leg kick and Frank counters with a one-two to the body.
That's three minutes gone in the round. Berg scores with a nice takedown into half guard. Let's see what he's got on the ground. Berg escapes and gets back to his feet. Berg tries to close the distance and clinch up but Frank swats him away and circles back towards the center. Frank doesn't succeed with the takedown and Berg counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw. Frank has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight. Excellent takedown into side control there by Berg. Frank explodes and escapes back to his feet! Nice escape there! This has been an exciting period of action! Frank is looking to slow Berg down with leg kicks. Berg dives in and grabs Frank's left leg, looking for a takedown. Frank pushes down on Berg's head and hops out. Frank unleashes a big counter combination but Berg bobs and weaves and avoids any damage.
That's four minutes gone in the round. Berg is looking to take this fight into the clinch. The fight stays on the outside here - Berg looks like he's thinking about clinching though. Frank tries to close the distance and clinch up but Berg swats him away and circles back towards the center. Berg throws a sloppy head kick and Frank moves out of range easily. Berg displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Frank. Berg throws a lazy uppercut
and Frank counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Frank.
And that's the end of the fight! I would just about give that final round to Nick Frank. I've got Frank winning every round here. Surely the decision will go his way and he'll pick up a well deserved decision victory. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
