PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between De Forest Treadwell (ranked 1128 p4p, 165 weight class) and Jako Day (ranked 1150 p4p, 171 weight class). Treadwell comes to the cage accompanied by God gave me style, I’m coming home mix. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 9 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, De Forest Treadwell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 21 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Jako Day!
The judges for this bout are Dean Styles, Bruno Lombardi and Columbo Gatti.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Excellent takedown into side control there by Treadwell.
Day tries to bench press Treadwell off him but Treadwell keeps the position.
Day is trying to control Treadwell's posture but Treadwell avoids it.
Treadwell sitting in side control, looking to soften his opponent up with elbows and hammerfists but Day is avoiding damage well and looking to escape the position.
Treadwell postures up a little and throws a couple of hammerfists but they don't connect properly.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Treadwell is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Day has escaped the position, nice work there.
Treadwell lands a decent elbow from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
You can see the frustration on Day's face, being in this tough position on the bottom.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

We've been hearing that Treadwell has been drilling a lot of ground and pound in training, so let's see if he get the finish.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Day is trying to control but can't.
Day is positioning himself well to prevent Treadwell advancing to mount.

Treadwell has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The referee has motioned to the fighters to stand back up. He just wasn't happy with the level of activity.
Treadwell goes for a double leg but Day avoids the attempt and the two fighters end up clinched against the cage as Day continues to drive forward.

It looks like Jako Day has been cut.
Day rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Treadwell moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Treadwell attempts a counter takedown but Day avoids it well and moves away.
Day takes a jab on the nose. He smiles like he loves it and keeps coming.

Treadwell gets in close and instigates a clinch.

Treadwell has managed to pull guard. Let's see whether he can work an aggressive guard. It will also be interesting to see what tactics Day uses from the top position.
Day is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.
Day stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Treadwell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Treadwell wants to sweep here but Day controlling him for the moment.
There's a bit of a scramble here and now Treadwell is on top in guard.

Day is working for an escape here. He's hooked one of Treadwell's legs and he's managed to sneak out and take Treadwell's back!

Day lands with a couple of good shots - one to the side of the head and one questionable shot that could be viewed as to the back of the head but the referee lets it go.

Treadwell moves away from the strike by Day.
Day lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Treadwell circles away quickly and effectively.

Day gets caught napping as Treadwell dives in and scores a takedown. Day manages to retain guard.

Day throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Treadwell shoots in for a double leg but Day sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Day has had enough of the clinch and is looking to separate.

Treadwell decides to pull guard.
Treadwell is pulling down on Day's head. It's preventing any offense from Day, at least for the moment.

Day slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.
De Forest Treadwell overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Treadwell connects with a nice short shot to Day's temple.

De Forest Treadwell spent the whole post fight interview bigging himself up. It didn't go down that well with the fans after a while as they thought it was a bit arrogant.
