Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
1 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Rusty Gaines!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of New York, William Manzo!
The judges for this bout are Jorge Garcia, Chad Campbell and John Roberts.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gaines clinches up with Manzo and pushes him back against the cage.
Manzo pushes off an throws an elbow but Gaines leans to the side and avoids it. We're back to clinching against the cage.
Gaines slows down the pace here.
Manzo pulls guard.
Manzo looking to control.
Gaines throws a big right hand that misses.
Manzo looking to sweep using the butterfly guard but Gaines puts pay to that idea as he passes nicely into half guard.
Gaines will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.
Manzo avoiding damage under a succession of punches from Gaines.
Manzo tries to get to full guard but Gaines has control of the leg.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Manzo flails away from the bottom but he's not doing any damage.
Manzo has a hand on Gaines's thigh, trying to get back to full guard. Gaines takes advantage of the position though and mounts him!
That's one minute gone in the round.
Gaines avoids the attempt from Manzo to control.
Manzo tries to reverse the position but Gaines maintains control.

Gaines punishing his opponent with strikes.
Gaines pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
Manzo wants to control but Gaines is having none of it.
Manzo defends a decent attempt at a guillotine from Gaines.
Gaines manages to capitalize on a mistake by Manzo to take his back!

Gaines has good solid back control here.
Gaines seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Manzo for as long as he can get away with.
Manzo should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Gaines is working the ground and pound here and the referee is taking a close look at Manzo. He must escape soon or this one will be stopped.
Manzo trying to control the hands but Gaines breaks the grip.

Gaines scores with punches to the body.
Gaines is looking to finish the fight by rear naked choke. Manzo knows exactly what he's got planned though, so he's defending well. Maybe a few strikes would soften Manzo for a finish.
Manzo is trying to stand. He's onto all fours with Gaines on his back. Gaines looks like he's slipping off but he's actually tansitioning to a beautiful armbar! Manzo has to tap out to a very impressive submission!
