The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Braun fails to land with a series of punches.
Braun misses with a series of wild punches.
Braun throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Mathis's waist but Mathis gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Braun off to one side.
A head kick by Braun misses

and Mathis counters with a single leg into guard. Braun didn't expect that.

Braun kicks Mathis off and gets to his feet.
Braun connects with a jab.
Braun throws a body punch but Mathis moves out of range.
Mathis attempts a counter takedown but Braun avoids it well and moves away.
Braun throws a low kick but his opponent is out of range.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Mathis takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Mathis tries to counter by moving into the clinch but Braun manages to circle out of the way.
Braun has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.
Mathis tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Braun paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Braun steps in looking to counter with the mid kick but it doesn't connect.

and Mathis counters by moving into the clinch. Good anticipation by Mathis.
Mathis manages to get underhooks and slows down the pace for a moment.

Mathis is pushing Braun up against the cage, for a bit of lean and pray action. Action being used the in the loosest possible sense of the word.
Braun has been the more effective fighter overall so far.
